But i'd say if they do offer it then it would cost a bomb! Haha, yer i agree they look kinda cool...just i get puzzled when you pay to have the house raised, then you pay to have it lowered again for a 'feature' So myself and my partner are at the stage where we are down to 2 houses. The Monaco (which we absolutely LOVE) and another from Eden Brae (which we like...). Biggest pill to swallow is the McDonald Jones inclusions just don't add up to anything like the Eden Brae ones. You get steel frames and a kitchen and bathroom upgrade (in a nutshell)....while Eden Brae include things like carpet, tiles, driveways, sitecosts (to an extent) etc etc. Fellow McDonald Jones builders, tell me there is light at the end of that expensive tunnel? Do they offer you some better/off the table deals closer to locking things in? What did you experience? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 7667Nov 18, 2014 1:05 pm why not tell the sale guy what Eden are offering and ask if he can match it, otherwise you'll go with them? I did a house and land 5% deal with MJH so all that was included for us. Hi swarmski, we payed a $1000 deposit on an Eden Brae home but after finding out some of the hidden cost pulled the pin. Push the salesperson and see if they can match it, worth a try. On coffered ceilings, we have one in the Entry and I think it looks good although a wider entry would make it standout more. I wanted to have a wider entry but our block wouldn't allow us the widen it. We also raised our ceiling heights to 2.55 not the full 2.7. We did them as a feature as the great room will be our main room of the house and to add something special to the entry. In terms of the inclusions and specials I think all builders have specials at different times but it comes down to does their door plan suit your needs, if it's your forever house and you settle will you be happy. I think as someone already mentioned the inclusions might sound good, but they would be generic, if you wanted sheen cupboards or stone to bench tops you would probably find this an upgrade. We chose MJh as we couldn't find another floor plan that suited our needs for the design of house we wanted for the property and every time I visit the display house I'm still blown away by the build quality and design. When choosing your inclusions think of what is really important to you, an awesome kitchen, great street appeal, bigger bedrooms, or whatever you need. Hope this has helped Building the Bronte Executive Grande at Windella NSW Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 7671Nov 18, 2014 7:42 pm G'day, great progress the last week, slab finished and frames going up ! Looks great. I agree with previous posts, the coffered ceilings look great, we did the entry and the "great room", when i look at the final costs i wish i had coffered everywhere i could and added a few more details. I think it will make a difference. http://brontelodge.blogspot.com.au/ Deposit 22/03 Land 08/04 Colours 02/06 Contract 07/07 Elec 02/09 DA 04/09 Cons list 25/09 Slab 13/11 Frames 25/11 Roof 10/12 Bricks 16/01/15 Locked up 13/02 Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 7672Nov 18, 2014 7:48 pm Topharin swarmski Got a newbie question. We want to raise out ceilings to the 2.7 height. There is also an option to add coffered ceilings for extra. Why do people raise the height of the ceiling, only to have it lowered again by coffering? Unless i'm missing something obvious? Good question, I was wondering the same thing Hi, not a pro but understand your logic of thinking! But to explain how coffered ceilings have worked for us with 2.7m height I will use my build as an example. We paid for 2.7m height in our master bedroom & then added a coffered ceiling. But they didn't add a bulkhead instead the ceiling in the middle is raised to say 3m. Giving the effect that a bulkhead has been added. The coffered ceiling was obvious before gyprock because we could see the roof frames raised in middle. Obviously this is not always the case but for us we didn't lose ceiling height instead we gained height in the middle. I would have had one in our hallway too but it was too narrow. Sorry but I haven't got a pic of full ceiling to show you but hope this makes sense. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 7673Nov 18, 2014 8:41 pm Nat84 Jazz926 Have anyone here built or building the Cordova Two? Would love to see some real pictures of the Cordova as they don't have it displayed any where in Sydney /quote] Hi Jazz, Unfortunately I don't think any homes from the GenOne range are on display anywhere we built the Nova so I know how you feel. This person (username nayrailuj) used to pop into the forum a bit and was building the Cordova 2, here is the blog though I don't think pics of the finished product are on there but could be nice for you to have a squiz anyway: http://mjhcordova2frsthome.blogspot.com.au/ I'm pretty sure if you search "Cordova 2" on this Homeone website it will show the results and I am certain he posted pics on this actual forum. Also someone by the username fullymad built the Cordova 2 (this is just from a search I did) and they posted a link to their photobucket so some good pics on there too by the looks of it. Like I said, do a search on Homeone for Cordova 2 and you'll find a couple of people's posts about it Hi Nat, Thanks for sharing that blog. Will definitely have a good read through. Will also check search up Cordova on the forum to see what else I can dig up Our McDonald Jones Cordova Two Build - http://cordovatwomjh.blogspot.com.au Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 7674Nov 18, 2014 10:37 pm Heartstone G'day, great progress the last week, slab finished and frames going up ! G'day Jazz926, just had a look at the tender document and the entry was 1370 and the great room 2210. Note the 2.7m added up to a lot more due to increasing the height of the internal doors, external doors, windows, stackers and extra charge for extra height in "altered home (facade)". I think it helps in the Bronte design to improve the look, each to their own i guess. good luck with your build. http://brontelodge.blogspot.com.au/ Deposit 22/03 Land 08/04 Colours 02/06 Contract 07/07 Elec 02/09 DA 04/09 Cons list 25/09 Slab 13/11 Frames 25/11 Roof 10/12 Bricks 16/01/15 Locked up 13/02 Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 7676Nov 19, 2014 5:30 pm We'll another grrrrrr kind of day. It appears the left hand of MJh isn't communicating with the right hand if MJh so getting a whole heap of mixed messages (when someone finally calls back) from different people. Told council now have all documents they were missing from the beginning of the lodgement, to now receive an email from the engineer wondering if council still need the report? When I was told by our CLO two days ago council now definitely have all the paperwork. Lucky for us we have a great guy at the council looking out for us or who knows where we would be. So another emotional day full of angry emotional emails and voicemails cause I'm over it. Over being ignored, being told incorrect info and given the run around. They are just lucky we love our floor plan so much. What an experience, the best salesman we could have asked for to mediocre admin staff, let's hope the actual build goes better than this part! Rant over! Hope the rest of you are going well, I'll just be glad to see soil turned before Xmas, not likely at this rate! Now definitely rant over! We have just started our build (hooray!) of the Monte Carlo w Rear Activities. The piers are going down tomorrow and I have heard a lot about it costing more after they have done it….but I also feel like I recall them overestimating it for us originally "just in case". Hi Lebear31, MDJ slab supervisor usually gets you on site before they fill the pier holes. They measure the depth of each pier in front of you and then tally it up so you know what the total is. My slab supervisor rang me in the morning, didn't give much notice for me to attend. My house is on sloping block, H2 slab and I ended up with 43m. Others on this forum have had less, one that I recall had more than 70m. Hope it goes in your favour tomorrow.
