The developer said that it could be end of October, worst February. Hope isn't that long. I'm new to this business, so any advice will be much appreciated. Congrats! What design are you going with? Hi Buildinghome123, My advise would be to consider your 150 day contract period in the Building contract. Once you sign your contract that Clock start's ticking to begin building. After the 150 days have expired and your land has still not registered, or you have not started the build, you will then incur a $1000 per month charge for additional Material costs, and labour charges. We have fallen into this problem by going over the 150 days due to the Vendor of the estate we are building in having trouble getting passed council to register the land. ( This is a House and Land package BTW presented to us) We did reach out and ask for assistance, a slight extension or lowering of the cost per month, but it was squarely knocked on the head, and basically told tuff luck. That's my first bit of advice for you. We took lots of notes regarding each room and I'm glad we went as it really clarifies a lot of things as opposed to just looking at a floor plan on paper! So my question is for anyone building or who has built the Havana (or Veuve as the case may be!)...I have one small issue with the linen cupboard, which happens to be located in the laundry. It's on the smallish size and we asked for extra cupboards (under and above bench) (including a tall broom cupboard) ...there simply isn't enough room! Did anyone else account for this in their plans or change the plan to accommodate their laundry needs? In my current house my laundry cupboards fit my ironing board, vacuum cleaner etc. my linen cupboard is in a separate hallway. Seems like we should be able to work something out but I am just interested in people's views. Other than that, we were pretty happy with the over all lay out of the house which is good seeing as we are well on our way to purchasing! Hi buildinghome123, we are in the same position as you! Paid our deposit today! Our land was supposed to be registered in oct but had been pushed back to dec already which is fine by us, happy for it to be a bit longer so we can save as much as possible. Not much is likely to happen over christmas any way. What design are you getting? We have gotten the manhatten two. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6859Aug 11, 2014 8:47 am Hi Just wondering how you go about fencing if your neighbor isn't actually building and is just sitting on the block for a while to make a profit basically. Can you still request they go halves in the fencing? Are they required to and how would you go about getting their details. Hi buildinghome123, The only thing I can suggest is start learning to be patient 'NOW', lol. But at the same time try to enjoy the process and by doing so this allows you to save more $$$$ for all the upgrades you'll no doubt want. Hope it all goes well Thanks. I'm trying not to look on any upgrades lol. I will be doing a lot of research. Any suggestions which colour of bricks and roof are the best combo? Gosh, there's so many combos to choose from that it comes down to personal taste really. We chose to render ours so that we didn't have the dilemma of choosing a brick clolour...tho having said that, it was just as damn hard to pick what colour render to do In the end, take a look around the estate and see what other people have done and if it takes your fancy...ask them (if you see them) if they mind telling you what they chose, I've lost count of the amount of people who have either taken a pic of ours or came up to us and asked what we did and I didn't mind at all. I have no doubt that you'll be happy with your home no matter what you choose to do, good luck. Michelle Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones.
