I would love to see some photos of what you have done and also what landscaping you have done to the front yard and around the deck. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6683Jul 10, 2014 11:38 am Hey all, we have been in our home just over 6 months now...it goes so quick and we love it. Have a look at our blog, if your looking for landscaping we highly recommend Southern Sun Landscapes they really took the time to come out and design our yard with us, the retaining wall and turf is done and we are looking at plants at the moment for finish off the landscaping. http://www.southernsunlandscapes.com.au Cameron 0405 455 265 http://entertainerexecutive1.blogspot.com.au Cheers Brian Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6684Jul 10, 2014 3:24 pm Hi Guys, How many coats of paint do MJH do inside the house? Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6685Jul 10, 2014 3:35 pm Nat84 Hi Guys, How many coats of paint do MJH do inside the house? 2 unless you ask(and pay) for otherwise. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6687Jul 10, 2014 5:08 pm Nat84 Hi Guys, How many coats of paint do MJH do inside the house? You get 2 but by the time they come back and fix up all the errors and mistakes you pretty much get 3 lol Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6688Jul 10, 2014 5:18 pm Hi Guys, Just wondering if anyone has had MDJ do their "rain gardens" and if so what's the extent that they do? Follow our home blog : http://milano2.weebly.com Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6689Jul 11, 2014 3:52 pm Just had electrical walk through. Apparently the expected completion date is the first week of October which is one week longer than the 6 month contract. Surprising as they are not doing the driveway, lighting, tiles or carpet. Now that the roof is finished I didn't know that it would still take another 14 weeks..? Does that sound right? I know when I signed up I was told houses were going up in 16-18 weeks so I don't know how I can be 75% complete and still be 14 weeks away. Ahh well, it is looking very nice anyway. We were 3 months from walk through to handover. They did our carpet tiles and driveway. In total it was 4.5months from slab to handover. Hey Jamie88, It took exactly 14 weeks from our pre-gyprock walk through to handover. The internal linings took a lot longer than we expected. Total build time was 5 and a half months including the Christmas break if that helps We did our own carpet and driveway too. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6692Jul 11, 2014 5:44 pm Did anyone get a private inspector during their build? We got one done today for our frame completion / pre-plaster and a few defects picked up, we will get one done around PCI time too. Just curious to see if anyone else did the same and what kind of defects were found. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6693Jul 11, 2014 8:16 pm Hmm, I had my 'electrical walk-through' on Wednesday. I didn't even think it was the pre-plaster inspection... we only really discussed electrical rough-in... He basically contacts the SS to gain access, so our guy went in at 7am today and we received the report this arvo so a quick turn around. We then have to forward the report to our SS and he has to arrange for any defects to be fixed, it'll be the same at PCI. We will be doing our electrical walk through with our SS soon hopefully. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6695Jul 13, 2014 12:52 am Hi. Developer approval complete. Plans were lodged with council on Friday. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6696Jul 13, 2014 7:05 pm Congratulations Lot927. MelnTom, your home is looking amazing. We had more progress over the past week with all the architraves, door jambs and doors installed minus handles. Screeding was finished Thursday and tiling started yesterday. The SS said the tiling will be completed early this coming week and painting booked in for the back end of it. The Laundry bench top was installed minus the drop-in sink. Is this something that is cut-out after installation and in goes the sink? We went four weeks over contract and everything was on schedule right up until near the end. Our SS went on holiday and so did our build. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 6699Jul 15, 2014 6:55 am Hi All First time poster, have really enjoyed everyone's posts about all the builds going on everywhere and of course all the blogs with the great pics. We are 1/2 way through a knockdown/rebuild and are building the Havana One with MDJ in Sydney, has been a really good experience so far. Have got our electrical/pre plaster walk through with SS this Thursday, and was wondering if there was any tips on what to look out for when going through it all with the SS? I have got a couple of things i will be bringing up such as a few brick ties not screwed into the frame by bricklayer and a few studs/noggin's not level. Will get a blog put together some time soon, have been flat out with work and keeping an eye on the build recently!! Anyway, she called back an hour later and said we actually don't need the isolater switch because we have a free standing oven! It's funny because I know that a few people on here have had to get one even though they have had a free standing oven. Definitely not complaining, but thought I would share for those who care to know! Must depend on area... Anywho, we have the plumber there today and I believe as we speak they are sorting out the drain pipe in Bedroom 2 issue (see my blog if you have no idea what I'm talking about!). Electrician booked in for tomorrow, gyprock being delivered on Thursday and they might possible start on Friday morning, they are a little bit behind on their jobs so they might not be able to start then, but if not it will be next week. We are also having our electrical walk through at 7am Friday (hubby and I had booked a day off on this day, there goes our sleep in LOL! But worth it anyway). So it's all happening this week! I also asked our SS about the defects on the inspection report we had done last week, he is already onto getting the issues fixed. Again they were only minor, but still happy something is being done about it. I must say I am quite impressed with this new SS Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones. It looks relatively cheaper than other builders.
