I think it is there more to ensure that payment is prompt and they are not waiting for weeks. I hear you though I only received my last claim in 'snail' mail yesterday about 5 business days after the invoice date. I actually paid it before based on the invoice in email which was emailed same day. Perhaps mdj need to find faster carrier pigeons! Skirting boards get done before handover obviously, then your flooring would get laid, doesn't really look right if skirting boards are sitting over the flooring? Skirting boards get done before handover obviously, then your flooring would get laid, doesn't really look right if skirting boards are sitting over the flooring? I'm tiling my floor after handover, and if you look closely at the mcdonald jones display homes in waterford county, they've laid the skirting then tiled afterwards(i took a tape measure and measured the height of the skirts). looks fine in their displays so i'm not worried about it. Awesome, good to know, thanks fullymad signing our contract tomorrow and was only brought to my attention tonight so I freaked for a bit there LOL. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4591Jul 25, 2013 9:46 pm We are laying floorboards and carpet after handover to avoid having the beading on top of the floors. We hate the look beaded look. We won't be able to avoid it around the bottom of the kitchen cupboards though as the kitchen cupboards have to be in before handover. Originally, we did want to go with the option of having MJH tack the skirting boards on, that way we can remove them to lay the floor and put them back on ourselves, but our SS told us that they either needed to be on or off. He recommended leaving them off as they use heavy duty screws and are hard to remove and there is the potential for the timber to break off and get damaged if you try and remove them. So unfortunately all the skirting boards will be put in our garage left there for us to cut them and install ourselves, but we think it beats having the beading around the egdes. Have you also considered leaving off your kitchen kick boards? This would also avoid beading around your kitchen cupboards. We will be asking MJH to leave off both our skirts and k/boards. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4593Jul 26, 2013 12:02 am The kickboards are already on. The outer side of the kitchen will need beading. Skirting boards get done before handover obviously, then your flooring would get laid, doesn't really look right if skirting boards are sitting over the flooring? We chose option 3 - left all the architraves off uncut and unpainted in the garage. We wanted a proper finish after we did our tiling and floorboards and did not want any beaded look as well. Also it looks better wiith the architraves a proper height and ontop of the tiles / floorboards hiding any joins etc. After handover, we tiled and did the floorboards, then finally got a carpenter in and a painter to finish off the job. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4595Jul 26, 2013 3:54 pm Everyones builds seem to be coming along nicely!! Can't wait to commence! For those of you who have gone with shutters, do Mjh use basswood or fauxwood? Or a combo? Hopefully someone knows! Thank you Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4596Jul 26, 2013 8:03 pm Contracts signed, sealed, delivered! We also took the easy way out and have decided to get MJH to do our flooring - I didn't want beading but also didn't wanna have to worry about doing the skirting boards after handover so we solved all our problems and they will do our hard flooring for us, and have specifically stated on our variation that they will do the flooring before the skirting boards so I'm happy I'm very happy with the price for our flooring too, thought it would be a lot more! We'll be doing carpet after handover though which won't be a problem. I must say, the ladies we dealt with at MJH were just amazing today, nothing was too big a hassle. We also changed our bag and paint colour from Coffee Cake to Twiggy, just wanted something a bit darker. We made the changes just before we signed the contract, so only cost us $200 as opposed to $1000! Stoked Thanks for your help everyone, much appreciated Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4597Jul 27, 2013 11:01 am di+matt Everyones builds seem to be coming along nicely!! Hmmm.... I might have to give our colour consultant a call! I was just thinking if they are basswood, then having that in the bathroom is not the best decision. Is Aluminium better than bassbood? Cheers! Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4599Jul 29, 2013 8:28 am di+matt mandv di+matt Everyones builds seem to be coming along nicely!! Can't wait to commence! Cheers! in the bathrooms they should actually use PVC or some other material which will not be affected by water/condensation etc. We got our shutters done after we moved in. Bass wood in all the rooms except these 2 windows where we wanted longer slats we had to get aluminium as the longer slats with basswood we were told would bow over time. pvc shutters in the bathrooms. Re: McDonald Jones Homes - The new thread 4600Jul 29, 2013 11:08 am Scratching our heads as to what to do with regard to blinds. We really want plantation shutters, but were told because we face west, we will get direct sun in the front two bedroom windows, which will mean they will warp and discolour and wont last 3 years and in the bathroom we have the moisture issue so PVC was suggested. The problem with the PVC shutters is that they only come in light colours, basically white and cream. We want a dark colour like a chocolate brown. The only thing we can think of where we will have consistency throughout the house is aluminium slimline venetians, but for some reason we can't seem to find anywhere there does a dark chocolate one. I have only come across two blind places that have a brown colour, but its more of a bronze. HELP!!! Hi AKG, We had a base tender of $592 for 31 squares from MC Donald Jones.
