Our builder has quoted us $4500 to upgrade our pine to upgrade to European House Borer resistant timber - Blue Pine..(They strongly recommend this)
Does this sound correct? Early responses would be appriciated as we either need to sign or the variaation or sign a disclaimer protecting the builder if we chose not to be upgraded..
Would it be cheaper to get the standard option and treat later? I have done a Google search and we are not building in an affected area - it seems to be more about where the pine is coming from...

Sounds expensive... We paid $700 for the upgrade through our builder.
That was for about 300sqm of roof.
I don't believe you can treat for EHB after the fact...?

Hi jod78, we paid $3225 for wespine blue timber as an upgrade, you can have it treated after it is put up it is sprayed with a boron product not sure how well this works as borer can already be in timber, we wanted cca treated after living in hills and being in a rmz area to protect for termites as well as borer and we will be moving into an area in the foothills of perth and wanted to be protected, maybe research it a bit more and see what suits you, we are currently under construction with Switch homes and we felt our amount was high, but your house is a big investment so you want to be protected having it sprayed is cheaper but is an ongoing cost in the long term cheers Kazzbah
