You could make it really thick with some built in shelving down low to house dvd players, stereo receiver, etc, tv above the shelving (but not high on a wall). It still gives pretty good visibility and hearing of the kids area, and you could always close it off with window above the half wall and a door or two if you do want a sound barrier. It would be like having an entertainment unit in, but with the streamlined look of having it built in as part of your house. Then you could have the corner lounge going along the shared wall with the garage and turning into the room to create a room divider between tv and dining area. just a thought... I don't have time to sketch it up and the moment, but will try to find some time a little later tonight =) Re: Would love some Urgent suggestions to our house plan 27May 26, 2010 4:02 pm hmm, i dont really know what you mean, im having trouble visualising it. Just out of thought, how big did you make that Alfresco area, just at $600 a square and its currently 20squares, we didnt really want to spend must more than that on it but like the look of the size you have made it. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ have drawn what i'm thinking of for the "tv wall" below the proposed wall. You would need to play with sizes according to your equipment (or potential equipment), but having a long, inbuilt shelf (or really deep niche) at the bottom of the wall would give a perfect place for your dvd players and such to go, and having all your plugs and things in there would hide all your cables. It would look awesome =) You could even build a shallower niche for the tv to give it a more streamlined feel. Re: Would love some Urgent suggestions to our house plan 29May 26, 2010 7:31 pm Thanks Somewoman, I do like the design but i really want to shut off the toy room, plus to tile all that area would cost a fortune, we are carpeting the dining/lounge, Media and bedrooms and tiling everything else so to tile the lounge/dining too would blow our budget. Somewoman as many people have said by now you have a natuarl talent for this! ************* First time renovator VIC Re: Would love some Urgent suggestions to our house plan 31May 26, 2010 7:46 pm acrebuild-why dont you just have the games room as your toy room? And there would be no problem having that area open and still having carpet in that front section with tiles where you have already allocated-I've seen this done in a couple of homes and it works well. Agreed - it's quite easy to switch from carpet to hard surface in any given area. They just use a trim, and there is a pretty good selection of trims available. I was thinking that you could put a window above the half-height wall for visual access to the kids, and a door on either end that you could open or close. Other than that, if you spin the couch 90 degrees anti-clockwise so that it is now stretching out from the wall rather than running along it, then you can have the TV on the wall. The couch itself forms a natural divider against the passage and dining room, ans it is still easy to walk around it to get to the media room or the kids play area. This probably works better as there is no throughfare to get to any room by walking between the TV and the couch. the rectangle room is a better media room - the shape is much better accoustically. You would only get cavity sliders if you have the TV wall at full height, or you could do it as some kind of funky feature where you create a full height wall when the doors are open. Re: Would love some Urgent suggestions to our house plan 37May 26, 2010 8:20 pm Ooo -love the french doors idea! Cavity sliders are great-but the kids opening and shutting them may drive you nuts! So if you go half wall where the TV is, why would you then go and put in 2 sets of french doors either side I'm suggesting half height wall for good visuals on the kids. You could get your sound barrier by adding glass to the top of it - an internal window between the rooms to make a full height height wall but still be able to see over the wall. A full height wall would work better, but no visuals on what is happening in the other room (although wood and glass french doors would look amazing on either end and provide views) And not dumb at all. btw - what did hubby think of the changes? i would suggest nothing is unreasonable for PCI. we did all sorts, including checking the hot water, checking all the GPO's had power, testing that the showers were… 9 98697 Hi, I am approaching end of the build.
