Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 25, 2010 1:17 pm Hi all, I am planning on building with Carlisle homes and got few questions on Smart wiring. Carlisle homes' preferred contractor is "Argus" and the package they offer is very expensive in comparison to all the other builders. Their package includes 1 TV point, 2 phone points and 5 data points for $2850. Has anybody got around this? can we get this done via another contractor? Most contractors can do the above package for around $1500 but not sure why Carlisle homes charge too much for that. Thanks in advance for your comments/replies. Re: Carlisle homes - Smart wiring 2May 25, 2010 1:19 pm is it in a FTTH estate?? man wish i could charge those prices... I think the price is too much as all the other developers quoted me around $1500. Now I have second thoughts on whether to go with Carlisle or not Re: Carlisle homes - Smart wiring 4May 25, 2010 1:45 pm and yes it is a FTTH estate so that Telstra can charge us with big bills.. Re: Carlisle homes - Smart wiring 5May 25, 2010 1:46 pm in that case, what else does it include?? that price isn't right for "that" cabling.. besides there shouldn't be a differnece between a telphone and network socket.. All I need is, 1 phone point, 2 tv points and one data connection. (may be two data connections if it's not much). I am planning to have a wireless routher running off the data point. If Telstra already laid the fibre optic cable around my foot path, what do I need for smart wiring to cater for my requirements? Re: Carlisle homes - Smart wiring 7May 25, 2010 3:30 pm well that seams about right for all that equipemtn aswell.. in terms of cabling a house personally 2 x data + 1 TV for every bed room 4 x data + 1 TV in an office ( a 3 way wall plate on one wall and a 2way on another.. 2 x data + 1 x TV behind TV's 4 x data and 2 x tv for any HT area but hey that is just me and I'm also thinking of resale/ future proofing aswell these are of course basic numbers for me esp for the home office where i would go up to 12 x data in a home office.. so you can move the room around as much as you like/ have desks/ equipment where ever.. Most contractors can do better packages at a much cheaper cost. Thanks in advance for your comments/replies. Yep, that was a pretty damn good deal!!!! Hi ibfragalot99, Juts a query about FTTH connection. I wasn't known about this FTTH connection when we signed our building contract. But now our construction is starting next week with burbank. Can we ask them to add this FTTH connection package to my build or it would be easier to do it afterwards. Please suggest. Another query is what would be the benefit to add this FTTH connection to your home. I am buidling in west of melbourne at wyndham vale.
