Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Carlisle Homes - even more issues...Updated Tuesday 9th Oct 21Oct 10, 2007 11:59 am ok, so your normal doors are all 2340mm, with the exception of this cupboard door, that is 2040mm high?
The builder will not add any more hinges than are required to hang the door, so if you want a 3rd hinge, you will have to add it yourself after handover. I think its a bit rough to expect the builder to add an extra hinge just because you think its more attractive, regardless of what all the other doors have. Re: Carlisle Homes - even more issues...Updated Tuesday 9th Oct 22Oct 10, 2007 12:09 pm memphis,
you are probably right but its just another nail in the coffin (so to speak) that is my ongoing battle with Carlisle Homes. It is petty, but surely if all the other doors are 3 hinges, why not this one too? I am building with a volume builder too (Clarendon) and I am similar to yourself in some ways, as I want top quality job and am happy to pay for it and won't accept 95% quality. But the difference with my attitude is that I always expected they'd be some issues with a volume builder and am trying to work through them so I get a quality house at the end of it. You have been doing the same since the start of your building process, but then one thing seems to have pushed you over the edge and now it's all out war. The only advice I can give you is to try and calm down - you have a great house that will be finished within weeks. If you don't make it personal - you should be able to get all your issues fixed, although some you may have to do yourself after handover. The bottom line will be your house will still come out cheaper than any custom built one, yet hopefully the quality will still be there. Just my 2c. Currently Building in Bayside (Brighton East) Re: Carlisle Homes - even more issues...Updated Tuesday 9th Oct 24Oct 10, 2007 12:23 pm The onus is on the builder to point out that one of the doors will have two hinges. The builders have experience and they should be going out of their way to highlight anything that may be an issue.
That is, look after the customer, not try to look for clever ways of screwing them. Builders that look after their customers will still be in business in 10 years time. Those that don't will die a slow business death. Point out the problems to the builder and ask them (unemotionally) to fix it. Leave it to them to fix. Engaging in a battle is not the best approach to getting a quality product. Those that don't will die a slow business death. I used to think the same thing, but now I am not so sure. Plenty of people today are interested in price only. Customer service is now a distant factor. Most people who build in new estates have very tight budgets, so meeting them is the priority. That fact pretty much works in favour of builders like H3nley who are well documented for their lack of service yet that doesn't put people off for some reason.
