Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 19, 2010 4:12 pm Well, boy am I glad I found this forum! We're building the Atlantique 32, after loads of dramas with our block, and nearly building with Boutique, we've signed on to build the house we fell in love with as soon as we walked through the door. I've just read a review site where Carlisle gets a right royal caning, it was terrifying! This is my first build so I was unbelievably relieved to read all the positive stuff here, hopefuly our experience will be fabulous and our home will be as beautiful as the display, fingers crossed. Re: Newbies! 2May 19, 2010 4:15 pm Hey congratulations on the signing Just keep in mind that you'll always hear more bad press than good, because most people just want to vent when they're angry, but not as many post the happy side afterwards...and negative events stand out in your memory looking back more too. So as long as they don't build a mud hut you should be right Land Deposit - 18/12/2009 Became a land Baron - 21/12/2010 Site Start - 27/1/2011 All moved in!! Re: Newbies! 3May 19, 2010 4:19 pm Hi Bumbellina and welcome (BTW, love the name) I wouldn't worry too much about what reviews might say because everyone's experience is different. I'm building with a volume builder who tends to get bad reviews from just about everyone I mention their name to but, perhaps not surprisingly, all the people who complain about them have actually never built with them (they know somebody who knows somebody etc). My only advice would be to keep an eye on your builder and let them know that you are watching what they do so they don't get complacent. I'm pleased to announce that despite all of the naysayers to date (touch wood) my build has gone well and been relatively trouble free. Best of luck with your building journey. Grom Re: Newbies! 4May 19, 2010 4:53 pm Hi Bumbellina, welcome. Good luck with your build. I look forward to reading about it. I was reading a review site about my builder, and saw a lot of negativity, but I also noticed that there is a lot of negativity regarding most builders. I wouldn't be concerned about what you've read. Hopefully things go smoothly for you. contract signed: Nov 09 Released to Construction: 23 Jul 10 Slab poured: 9 Aug 10 Frame completed: 30 Aug 10 Windows & Gutters: 7 Sep 10 Bricks: 15 - 23 Sep 10 Roof: 24 Sep 10 Gyprock: 20 Oct 10 Lockup: 25 Oct 10 Kitchen: 27 Oct 10 Tiling: 6 - 9 Nov 10 Painting: 17 Nov 10 Carpet: 30 Nov 10 PCI: 15 Dec 10 Handover: 17 Dec 10 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35943 Re: Glass splash back? 5May 19, 2010 7:07 pm Thanks for the warm welcome folks and the great advice, I'll try not to worry too much before there's something to worry about! On a another note, I was told that glass splash backs are impossible to clean and while they look great at first they don't stay that way, is that true and are glass tiles any easier to maintain? B Hi & welcome Bumbellina! The rental we are in has a glass splashback and it is no harder to clean than a window! We are having a glasssplash back in our new build after having tiles in the last 3 (and they can be a real PITA to clean-bolognaise sauce & white grout= nightmare...)
