Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 16, 2010 9:40 pm Hi All, We are in a particular energy provider's area where only this providers approved technicians can install tiger tails (rubber tubing that goes over the electricity lines at the front of the house...called tiger tails because they are normally black and yellow striped) To avoid going against this forums terms of use, I will not name the area that we are building in. Our problem with only having the choice to use our energy providers suppliers is that they only choose one company to over a VERY large area. This leads to a monopoly. The installation company knows that we need to put the tiger tails in order to build the house and no one else can install them. Because of this, we have been quoted $1,300 for installation and $350 for rental per month. This is to cover 15 meters of power lines at the front of our house. I would love it if people came to me and I knew that they needed to get my product and I could charge whatever I wanted! I know that installing the tiger tails is a dangerous job but I struggle to work out how they can charge $350 rental per month for what is essentially rubber tubing. I am going to take this to the relevant ombudsman and the ACCC to see if there is something to be done about this and avoid other people going through what we currently are. It would help to know what everyone else has paid/been quoted to install their tiger tails and the monthly rental amount. If you could let me know the area you are in and the length of time they were up that would help. The more people that respond, the stronger the argument. Crossing fingers that I can make a difference! Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20355 No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11569 7 11936 |
