Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 03, 2007 9:47 pm A few weeks ago I told you about the issue with the downpipes needing to take the spot of the external light fitting...
At the time we noticed where the wire had come through the brickwork, the downpipe had not been installed as yet. (I need to note that the light was inserted seperate to the contract as signed with the builder so there is no responsibility to them for the positioning) Although the cable was already through the brick the plumber (again because it was on the plan) cut the hole for the downpipe and installed it as per the plan. Upon noticing this and bringing it to "D's" attention he said that there was nothing they could do as this was what the contract stated. Fair enough! On Monday whilst in my site meeting it was noted the downpipe nearest the front of the house on the west side could not be fitted due the gas line coming into the house (thats a whole other issue). "D" made a comment that it would have to be moved. I the said "amazing that Carlisle Homes can move a downpipe (that can't be moved once in) for themselves but not to help out their paying clients... A small chuckle was heard from the crowd!! I'm sure they'll sort it out. Ewan, They wont sort it out because contractually they don't have too. just another thing to let people know about the customer service provided. do these builders never cross check anything at the drafting process - or on site! Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Carlisle Homes - more issues... 9Oct 04, 2007 1:31 pm I'm sure you'll be able to get that light to fit there. The only issue I see is cosmetic.
It won't be directly in the middle of the wall, due to the pipe. However it can be install with no problems. The funny thing is they didnt do the same for the display. Even on my home i dont think they placed a downpipe next to the garage or on the front facade. http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc289/thunderingdonut/homes.jpg Re: Carlisle Homes - more issues... 10Oct 04, 2007 1:35 pm I am thinking about having the downpipe moved fter handover to around the side of the garage.
Do you have these lights (or similar) available?? Ta! Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Ta! Hi Vanderlay, I happen to have exactly what you are looking for. They come in 3 colours: white, black and stainless steel. Can you tell me what length they are and if 12v or 240v. They will be going onto the front wall so I think we would need a 240v as nowhere to put transformer? Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Re: Carlisle Homes - more issues... 17Oct 04, 2007 4:33 pm Matt, I can see where you are coming from. You are simply expecting some common sense customer service that you would get anywhere else.
But unfortunately the building industry is a different cattle of fish. Most volume builders would cause you similar kinds of problems that you're describing here. No question about that. Yet the smaller builders would have other issues, including warranty problems once they're no longer around. It's hard to win here. It all depends on your expectations. You are just expecting something that simply is too much for this industry. Here is an example of one of my issues. I am quite happy with my builder so far. Most of the issues found in my independent inspection (Kevin) were fixed or are being fixed. Yet when I realised I forgot about the cold water point behind the fridge, they charge me $500 for a post-contract variation. Seems silly, as the plaster hasn't been starteed yet, but that is their policy, and no common sense can be applied. I am ok with that, as I knew it up front. I still said yes to the cold water point, as it would cause me more problems later when I decide to buy one of those fridges. You have to move on, and look at the big picture - that is a perfect house that is not too far away from completion. They stop about a foot and a half above the bottom of the brickwork, and they are conected by a big ugly white pipe going up and connecting to it!!
*sigh* I had no idea what i was getting into when we decided to build. and here's me thinking that paying the mortgage is hard! that's EASY!! lol THEY HAVE FINISHED THE HOUSE AFTER NINE LONG MONTHS... BUT! The carpet is the wrong colour... We were lucky in that our old house was so small (86 square metres) compared to the new house, they were able to take enough readings around the old backyard house before… 8 37160 Carlisle use to sneak a water resistant "Performance Solution" into their contracts. Have you checked your contract for same? 4 10273 I would be wary. Is you site demilished but nothing else done? Sounds like liquidity problems to me. Our builder did the same.
