Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 15, 2010 11:51 am Hi, Has anyone had their trenching and cabling done for their phone line without having to go through Visionstream? I've just been told its going to take 10 days for someone to call me back to arrange an appointment Surely you can contact contractors directly? Not what I wanted to hear after dealing with incompetent Telstra people over the last three days. I've learned one thing though - half of Telstra shouldn't have jobs! Re: Doreen/Mernda area - Telstra phone line 2May 15, 2010 8:00 pm I know nothing about this Ari, but from a legal perspective it seems wrong. Surely the ACCC has rules about this. What the hell happened to competition? And consumers being able to shop around for the best deal?? How about this one: http://www.phoneworks.net.au/Residential_Services/connections_residential_trenching.php According to their website, they're licenced.... You could give Service Central (or one of those mobs) a go too. Re: Doreen/Mernda area - Telstra phone line 3May 15, 2010 11:25 pm Ari we got our friend who is an electrician to do it as he has an excavator there are some other private mobs around though 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! This visionstream mob told me that regardless of if I got someone to do the trench and cabling, I would still need them to come out?? To add more confusion, I just got the telstra plans from DialBeforeYouDig and it is saying we have a telstra cable running 15-20 metres into our property. Looking at the plan its the same for our next door neighbours that already have a phone line. I dont even really want a phoneline. I just want internet!!! Re: Doreen/Mernda area - Telstra phone line 5May 15, 2010 11:42 pm We still had to get telstra out to connect which took them 5 mins... 2nd build here we come in Whittlesea! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=92617 1st Build - Henley - Cooper in Doreen! In fact they are booked for the 27th. However this other group wont even be calling me to arrange a time by then and they are saying no once else can dig the trench and do the cabling, or if I do get someone else to do it, they will still need to come out before telstra. Do you remember if your friend put the grey telstra box on your house wall or telstra? Re: Doreen/Mernda area - Telstra phone line 9May 16, 2010 10:01 am Ari .....they are saying no once else can dig the trench and do the cabling, or if I do get someone else to do it, they will still need to come out before telstra. As far as I know, anyone can dig the trench - obviously there are requirements regarding depth and so on - and then you need someone with the appropriate licence to do the cabling. Perhaps there's an inspection and sign-off required to satisfy Telstra that everything has been done to standard ....but then, what would be the point of licencing all these contractors to perform this type of work? Seems it's not just you getting the runaround from those idiots: http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32313&hilit=phone+trench Re: Doreen/Mernda area - Telstra phone line 10May 16, 2010 10:21 am Hi Ari,
We are in the same area as you and recently went through VStrm. We dug our own trench, then called the guy at VStrm who came and ran the cables from the pit to the house. He connected the grey box on the wall. When I was dealing with VStrm they gave me the number for the contractor so I called him direct to check where the pit was. We had pre-wired our house so when Telstra came they just put in the two points. No discount for having wired your own house, still $299 for connection. Telstra were only here for 5 mins also. I will try and find the number, but think I threw it away after I was done with that experience! I've already asked Telstra to cancel all my accounts ($300-$350 a month) twice but they refused to transfer me and refused to put me onto a supervisor! me,he&little she Hi Ari, We are in the same area as you and recently went through Visionstream (yes we had problems too!).
