Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Aubin Gardens -Stage 9 & 10 - Come and meet your neighbo 541Mar 23, 2011 11:53 am Well today was meant to be THE day.... but no...the house isn't ready. Hubby is soooo peeved right now. We told them that we would not be collecting the keys until the house is completed. So he went to the house yesterday, and of the jobs that were done, most of them were crap touch up jobs that were unacceptable, and there are still other jobs outstanding. We are so OVER this crap. The construction manager was meant to call, but we are still waiting for that call. So at this stage, we don't know when we r getting our keys. Truely disappointed. Building a custom plan with Aveling Homes. Slab down Aug 2010. Due for completion Feb 2011. Re: Aubin Gardens -Stage 9 & 10 - Come and meet your neighbo 542Mar 23, 2011 12:05 pm Hi Telotubby It is very annoying. We still have a list of things that never got done. Its so frustrating. The most annoying part is that once the final payment has cleared builders do not seem to be in a rush to get anything finished for handover. They expect you to accept an unfinished house. It is not good enough. I wonder if in one of their display homes they would be upset if it had unpainted cornice, holes in the roof, no door handles or no power when trying to show the house to potential customers. Re: Aubin Gardens -Stage 9 & 10 - Come and meet your neighbo 546Mar 23, 2011 7:26 pm I thought that too Wrexter. All builders are different however if you do not make payment for the house within 10 days of PCI the builder will charge you interest. And they do trust me. Even if the house is not finished. The final payment is for practical completion. "practical" does not mean 100% finished. It can mean there are minor defects that can be repaired within the maintenance period. I think it depends on the company however they all seem to be very similar. Last time I built you did not hand the cheque over until the day of handover. So everything was done and you got to see what you have paid for. Over here you are expected to pay interest on a house that you do not even have keys for. Then when you get keys as you don't get a second pre-handover inspection you are unable to see what has not been done since the PC Inspection until after handover. So annoying but unfortunately that is what is done. Hopefully our outstanding items will be fixed over the next few weeks. Re: Aubin Gardens -Stage 9 & 10 - Come and meet your neighbo 547Mar 30, 2011 1:09 pm Just a quick question ... Has anyone used the contractor for the landscaping yet? and if so what are your thoughts? did they do a nice job, were they open to suggestions? what is involved in the design process? Just wanted to know before I think about getting someone else to do the landscaping.
