Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Sloping Block Builders Melbourne 21Jun 09, 2012 8:42 pm No we did not & going by some people's posts it was a good decision. The one being built by SBB down the road from us is taking longer than any build I have seen. So glad we chose the builder we did although the actual build doesn't start til Aug or Sept My Hamptons build (completed): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63370 Moved in Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 Front landscaping completed June 2016 Re: Sloping Block Builders Melbourne 22Nov 16, 2012 7:07 am Wonder how this build is going now. Sometimes thing start badly but improve as things progress. One always hopes so. Given that things are a bit quieter, we would expect to see all builders building more quickly, wouldn't we? Re: Sloping Block Builders Melbourne 24Jan 21, 2014 9:20 am A sloping block builder is really a specialist. Watch out for people who say they build on sloping blocks when it is not really their speciality. Also, design is critical. One needs a designer who is experienced in sloping block construction work, then one needs a builder to do it. Better still find a builder who is a one-stop shop. Design and Construct. Re: Sloping Block Builders Melbourne 25Jan 22, 2014 8:08 pm We are still building with SBB. It's been very slow but other than that no major issues. We knew they were slow when we signed up with them. A few things were done incorrectly along the way but it's always been rectified. They aren't using Infantino on our build. I'm unsure if they still use that builder. Plan stage takes time if you want things done correctly! Their range of inclusions are great and you have plenty of variety, thry also have a colour consultant who is lovely and made us feel more at ease that we had made good colour decisions. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions but I honestly can't fault them. http://themorrisontrio.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Sloping Block Builders Melbourne 27Mar 05, 2014 9:45 pm Our build has been slow and often trades have had to come back on site to rectify issues. So far, every issue has been rectified. If that continues I'll be happy. At this stage I'm annoyed that its dragged on. Due to the delays and failure to meet any timelines/deadlines we are unable to list our current place for sale until we move. That means we will be paying two mortgages until we sell plus the time it takes for settlement. Having said that, if they can deliver a quality build then it will be worth it in the end. Funny though as it turns out they must contract out to similar list of companies (infantino) etc. Thanks for your help Re: Sloping Block Builders Melbourne 34Jul 31, 2014 10:00 am We're currently 7 month into our build and it's not progressing very fast
Re: Sloping Block Builders Melbourne 35Jul 31, 2014 11:13 am Hi all. New to this forum but felt compelled to contribute. Currently building with Infantino via SBB and there are pros/cons. Cons: Communication is non existent (they don't answer calls), work is beyond slow, will def be over due date. Making upgrades to inclusions after signing is a nightmare, make sure you're thorough with every detail and go to their showrooms prior to signing. Pros: Can't fault workmanship (structure/foundations very sound), standard inclusions are very good, their tradies are very easy to deal with when/if they're present. Price competitive. I spoke to several owners who'd built with them prior to signing and all told me they were very slow but workmanship was good. I wasn't in a great rush so went with them, even after having read some of the comments in this forum. In my case there was a few months between signing the contract and building permit being approved due to slope/council etc. This has made the whole process seem drawn out. Will still be over due date by a few months. Would I build with them again??? Hit me up if you need info that can't be posted. Ours is currently well and truly past contract (March 15 was contract date). Our frustrations lie in poor communication, non existent customer service skills and lack of supervision of trades on site which has resulted in work needing to be redone and fixed. This of course adds to the build time. It's great that you joined this forum the same day you contributed to this thread. I hope that you will return and commence your own thread so we can follow your build journey. Otherwise many people may see you as nothing more than a comment initiated by the builder to salvage their reputation. I hope that is not the case. I certainly hope my comments haven't been construed as pro builder because they're anything but. I've tried to be balanced in my assessment of my build to date. If the last 6 months are anything to go by i'm certain my frustrations will grow as per others in this forum and owners i'd spoken to previously. It's my first build and it's not a process I would revisit in a hurry, certainly not with this builder. I more so wanted to comment to make others, mostly first home builders like myself, aware of the pitfalls of dealing with SBB/Infantino. Re: Sloping Block Builders Melbourne 38Aug 05, 2014 9:39 am I would highly recommend you engage an independent builder inspector for each stage of the build. I am annoyed that we didn't do it for each stage, especially since learning of others builds (completed as well as currently in progress) that have had so many issues. The Internet is a wonderful thing and it has put me in contact with several of their past and present clients. It would appear that many of our frustrations are the same, regardless of which builder is on the contract. I work along the entire supply chain (Designer->-> contractor) We aim at predicting all possible events with optimal solutions "**** Happens" and we may change things on difficult/problem builds That means they are non compliant and I dont need Independent Building Surveyors/Inspectors stirring up clients as I am there to deal with all problems. IMHO,Builders should hire more engineers at that initial stage rather than salesman. my2c Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Sloping Block Builders Melbourne 40Dec 07, 2014 2:21 pm I agree with StructuralBIMGuy. That is why now all my houses are engineer designed and I get an engineer to inspect the frame. My total number of independent inspections has climbed to approx 13.
