Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] 81Oct 15, 2010 9:06 pm yeah very soon pete, as soon as I've chopped the block up and laid down the crushed rock at least.. its just filthy at the moment, too much mud and crap... really irritates me, and Mel more so, I keep walking in and bringing mud and crap in the house lol... this crap rain isnt helping next saturday, a good mate of mine is rolling up with a 3 tonner backie, so we'll be carving the whole block up, digging the driveway out, laying crushed rock for the drive/path and down the sides of the house... will at least give us some access and get it ready for the concrete. from now till then i've got to move 4 pallets of bricks out of the driveway and he's organised 4 truck loads of crushed rock to be delivered.. about 24 cubes total... got rock? LOL Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] 83Oct 15, 2010 9:19 pm good stuff.. my mate Jim who's digging up the block is going to teach me how to use the excavator.. will be fun hauling a nice 3 tonner around... will only play in the backyard where there is plenty of room so I dont accidentally clean up a brick wall hahaha... timber fences on the other hand are cheap and can be fixed LOL Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] 85Oct 15, 2010 9:24 pm yeah, I've played on bobcats but no excavators yet... if Mels there I'll get her to take some action shots of me cutting loose /rubs hands together with evil grin Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] 86Oct 17, 2010 10:43 am not a real update as such, but I've been moving bricks in preparation of the driveway/site works... 1200 of so bricks and doing the job in the mud.. really sucks to top it off, I couldnt use the wheel barrow as it kept getting stuck in the mud so the jobs been done by hand... the good news, I got through about 600 or so yesterday Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] 88Oct 17, 2010 1:09 pm corked, yeah everything went really quick! from memory, we poured our slab around 13th of May and took the keys 14th of October.. so just over 5 months in total from end to end with no real issues I got to admit, their head office team and procedures need to be looked at, but the building works themselves were flawless.. hats off to our building supervisor Greg, he was a gun... as I type this, I bet you he's probably enjoying the bottle of Jack Daniels I gave him on Thursday the splashback is an awesome feature.. we have a couple of downlights either side under each of the overhead cupboards, and my god they look stunning at night! edit: forgot to say, theres only about 250-300 bricks left to move now.. came home for a small break.. Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] 89Oct 17, 2010 2:17 pm hey all, this thread has been inactive for a while.. guess we have all been busy with our builds !!! Regarding us we are almost at handover. We had problems with the downpipes. They seem to have put them in the wrong area. So that is getting fixed. We were told that our final inspection will be in 2 weeks times. There are still a few things that needs to be fixed. I pumped into my site supervisor and we have an INFORMAL inspection. These are things such as chipped tiles, lights not working so nothing that big. Anyway its great to see faerie and yourself have almost finished as well Hard work but well worth it. I love checking faerie's blog every week Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] 90Oct 17, 2010 3:26 pm g'day gacho, long time no type yeah the thread died for a while, my fault.. life just got hectic for us as it does at times... bit disappointed as I didn't even get to take many progress photos... ohh well, you get that sometimes.. that said, I'll be keeping this thread updated from now on with all the things I do from now on.. I've also just started my own little blog, not sure if you've seen it.. its still fresh but whatever happens will be posted up there. good to hear yours is nearly done! have you got any pics online, or even your own blog up? I cant seem to find a thread on here for your place... would love to see where its at... sounds like you only have minor issues that will all be fixed up no doubt guess what, all 1200 bricks have now been moved from the driveway... Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] - Got the Keys! (New Pics Page 5) 96Oct 17, 2010 10:14 pm thanks rarygirl and pete Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] - Got the Keys! (New Pics Page 5) 97Oct 18, 2010 1:14 pm quick update, got Mark and team from Jim's Fencing Berwick out on site completing one of two pailing fences that need to get built.. these guys have good hands and do a great job.. will get some pics up tonight when they're done. also got the alarm getting installed tomorrow by Ged, some guy my brother in law referred me to, apparently an old guy, doesn't advertise and is very booked up as he has a good reputation (just word of mouth). My hardwood timber floors (sydney blue gum) should also be getting delivered tomorrow for the front two rooms (bedroom 1 & living), will deal with the back bedrooms later on... no kids yet, so no fuss at the moment its all happening! Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] - Got the Keys! (New Pics Page 5) 98Oct 18, 2010 5:01 pm Mark from Jim's has come and gone, fence 1 of 2 is now complete... happy this one is done as its blocking the hot water service from street view: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Mark will be back tomorrow to start on fence number 2, and install capping on the above fence.. the timber supplier were out of capping but will have it in tomorrow. I can now start digging up that side of the house and prepare it up for the concrete... this will be the dogs play/run side so it has to get done before we move in. not looking forward to this part as it has to be dug up by hand (pick & shovel) because the machine thats coming on Saturday to dig up the block is too wide for this area.. doh Re: Santorini 29 [Big M] - Got the Keys! (New Pics Page 5) 100Oct 18, 2010 5:27 pm g'day gacho, on that side of the house I did, on the other side 1 (out of 3) is missing.. the fence on the other side has a bit of a wing, looks something like this: ____/ the peg where the / kicks back is missing, but Mark has all the other measurements so it wont be hard for him (I hope).. are you sure they are all gone and not buried from the earth works? If so what were the "special circumstances" under which it was granted? "Note: If the development consent is for 'dual occupancy' an owner-builder permit can only be… 0 13986 |
