Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 05, 2010 10:34 pm Hi, Was just wondering if the electricity would be connected up before the build starts or after it is finished? If it is before the build starts, what is it connected up to? Do you put in a temporary fuse box? I have a double garage already on site. Would it be a good idea to have the power connected up to that before the build and then move the fuse box into the house when completed? IF you're doing a self build then perhaps you should put this thred into the owner builder section? Typical brick homes that I have seen generally have the meter box installed first before anything else goes in - slab included. The have it attached to a metal post and located where it will always be, then they pour the slab up to it and brick around it. The power is connected from before the slab even goes down, and the tradies power all of their tools using your meter box. We're building a house using hebel power panel at the moment, and the meter box wasn't installed until way after the walls were up, so no power was connected until recently and all the tradies had to bring their own generators. Hope this helps! Re: Connecting electricity before or after building? 3May 05, 2010 11:18 pm It does. Thank you. Will be doing owner build but with a project manager.
