As mentioned in my blog, I found this steel beam in the alfresco area which is actually 2 beams been joined together. Just like to know if this is "common" or should that be considered a mistake/problem that should be rectified? Any suggestions/comments welcomed. Its not load bearing out there so I personally wouldn't be concerned. Whats interesting is how they intend to fix it to the post... (Updated) 18Sep 27, 2007 3:17 pm Yes Ahuang, this is a common thing, well at least it is in the steel industry. Although I am surprised they have not welded another piece of flat steel (about 200mm in length would do it) across the join. Just for additional bracing over the weld, it would only require oneside to be braced as it is being supported by a brick pillar it may not need it. According to our supervisor, the steel beam delivered was too short that's why he has to join it like that. But as there's not much load on it, we don't have to worry about it. ==> We will let the structure engineer to confirm that during our pre-plaster inspection. The funny thing is, on Saturday we found the dark coloured, joined part has been painted in orange... Wonder what was that for, to make it looks more "beautiful" or to be in similar colour to the other part?? I got a note on my blog from "kathy" suggesting it might be to protect it from rust, any idea??
