Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 61May 12, 2010 12:23 am Thanks, we extended the wall between the TV room and the casual to line up with the alfresco doors (TV room). I think this small mod ended up cost us a couple hundred dollars. The reason is so we can put a door on it at a later stage if we feel it's necessary. Next time i'm at the house, i'll get the measurements for you. Building in the Maples, Laurimar. It is displayed in the "Illoura" which is a prestige home. Chloe, I thought that since we are both on the same wavelength with colours, that you might like this. Except I would really like to see this scheme done with floorboards instead of tiles. Do you think these colours would work just as well with the floorboards? the kitchen incorporates both styles we were talking about... some of it is a nice choc brown and the rest of it is bold and white. Anyway, tell me what you think. T. Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 63May 13, 2010 3:07 pm Hi Trudy, Yes I have been to the display of that house at Lyndhurst and LOVE that kitchen!!! Yes I think it would still work really well with floorboards. Then it incorporates both colours we love. We really do have similar taste So what have your thoughts been lately in regards to the setup of the casual room....re placement of the tv etc??? Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 64May 13, 2010 3:12 pm Hey Chloe, loving urban mocha i wanna know what colour those tiles are. About the casual area.... it still has me stumped the only way around it I think is to extend the width and take room away from the alfresco. The room is currently 4.2 wide, what if we could have it 4.8 wide? This would be the width of the living room in the lexington Q1 and I have been to that house... its nice and wide. I think then I could put a couch opposite the TV. but that still leaves me placing a couch against stacker doors Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 65May 13, 2010 5:08 pm I cant find my photos. grrrr Trudy the easiest solution is for you to set the chairs up like in the display. Sit on one couch so you are looking left one day, and the next day sit on the other couch so you are looking right. No neck problem!! Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 66May 15, 2010 3:56 pm Hi... went to the Monterey today. Chloe, we can definitely mount the TV on the back wall and have couch facing that way we can even set it out the way it is in the display and it still wouldn't be an issue. The house looks more beautiful every time i see it Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 67May 15, 2010 9:03 pm Hi all, I've just looked at JamesandElisha's blog and one suggestion I would make is in regards to the entry from the garage into the laundry. I would move the door from the garage to opposite the laundry tub so that it doesn't open directly onto the laundry door (which would be a PITA!) Is it different to you set up at home? And what were your thoughts about mounting the tv on the back wall instead....do you think this would be better than as per the display or not??? I think I will go out to one of the displays again tomorrow. Which did you go to today? I live closest to the Lyndhurst display but I might go to one of the other villages tommorow to see it displayed differently. Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 69May 15, 2010 10:55 pm Hi Chloe, Yes I think it would be set up better on the back wall instead of the way in the display but that's just my personal opinion. The way it was in the display was still good and don't think you would get a crook neck because the room is huge and you aren't completely turning your head to the side ... If u get what I mean. In our living room at home, the room is quite narrow so that setup just doesn't work. Basically, whether you set it up like in the display or whether you put the tv on the back wall, the room works out really well. No need to change dimentions anywhere. ALSO.... The kitchen was totally brown cupboards and drawers underneath with white c/stone. Overhead cupboards in white too. Against the floorboards, the kitchen was too brown in my opinion. Needed to have mire white cupboards underneath so I think I will be mixing my kitchen to be more white with some brown. I went to the mernda display today, haven't been to lyndhurst yet. T. Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 70May 15, 2010 11:09 pm Thanks so much Trudy, your opinions really help. Well I think I might go to Mernda tomorrow to have a look. Lyndhurst also has floorboards so you should pay it a visit one day too.....although the kitchen is all dark there...brown cupboards and dark benchtops. Did you have a look at the Lexington there too? I'll be looking at both and comparing!! Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 71May 16, 2010 12:43 am Hey Chloe, Yeah no worries, happy to share opinions and info as it all helps doesn't it?! I looked at Lexington too but it just reaffirmed how much better I liked the Monterey. Also, we decided we are going to leave the plan exactly as is... The study isn't as bad as what I originally thought. This means I will just have the normal wardrobe as in the plan ( boo hoo a little) but we will upgrade to grand master suite to give me a little more wardrobe length ( victory dance). I also popped into the soho to look at the kitchen... Way too dark for my liking. But BEAUTIFUL house. Just came home after watching robin hood. Terrible. Don't see it. Waste of money! G night! T. Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 72May 16, 2010 8:55 am Still cant find my camera but I've found a few photos from when we were building. We changed the back wall to a big window. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Bad photos of a white kitchen. The bench is still covered. I am having a red splashback too ( red desert)...what colour is yours.....love all the drawers, it definately way to go.. Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 75May 16, 2010 1:28 pm wow. this is getting me so excited reading everyone's comments and opinions. I'm building the lexington Q2. I was just given a few sheets of photocopied paper showing the different structural and kitchen options. Just wondering if this is what everyone was given or something else. Just want to make sure i am aware of all the structural options available. There's a pretty big book at all the sales offices that has all the options for all the Clendon Vale homes. Get your hands on one of those. Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 77May 16, 2010 7:03 pm Hi Erin... I just received that same booklet yesterday when I went to the mernda display and I like it so much better than the old system Henley used to have of just choosing one particular type of kitchen. This way you get to mix and match your kitchen to suit you. I am definitely going with the drawers the same way Ari has. I find it so much easier to use this way. Have also decided to go with the all white kitchen as it looks classic, classy and stands out so well against the hardwood floors. Splash back I think will be in a choc/mocha kind of colour. What do you think? What do others think of the all white kitchen? Ari, your photos are great, I like how you converted the back wall into a big window... it probably opens up the room a lot more. I went to the display yesterday and you were right.... you can set up the couches and TV in the same way. the room is wide enough for it to not be such a problem. P.S. does anyone know if HH has huge site costs? We have a fall of about 800mm on our block and I know their fixed site costs only covers people who have a fall up to 600mm. HH has said they do not build on stumps so this is not an option. Thoughts please? T. Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 78May 16, 2010 8:33 pm trudy Hi Erin... Problem with estimating site costs is they dont know till they dig and so they overestimate....do you know if there is any rock or shale (? not sure how to spell) in the area you building? Re: Henley.....Monterey or Lexington.....which do you prefer 79May 16, 2010 8:42 pm I've had white cupboards with toddlers in the past-and it was no more difficult to keep clean than a woodgrain one I had in the last house (where I still had toddlers visiting nearly daily...) But well worth it I must say, I worked alot out. So firstly I definetly decided I LOVE the Monterey way more than the Lexington. It just feels so much more open & spacious. I also decided I defintely want to leave the laundry where it is....i love the look of it and that it just separates the two living areas. I've also decided to leave the part wall on the living/theatre room and to add two nice wooden doors with glass inserts so I can close the room off if I feel the need to. Is that what you are thinking of doing also??? And I came to a clear decision on the casual room too....i will have the tv on the back wall.....so then I will have a couch opposite the tv and one along the wall as well, or a corner lounge. I think it is alot more practical that way, and will be more comfortable too. So I wont be having the fireplace & recess along the casual wall anymore, so that saves me $10k which I have decided to spend on the facade instead so now I will be having the Edison!!
