Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 26, 2010 3:38 pm Hi There, This is my first forum post, first building experience. Has anyone had any experience with Sarah Homes? I have just paid my initial $2000 deposit, for soil test, etc. I stumbled across a website that totally bagged this company...now I'm really nervous. Can anyone reassure me that I'm doing the right thing? Please help, any advise would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks, Marie Re: Sarah Homes 2Apr 26, 2010 4:13 pm Hi Marie and welcome! Our holiday house was done through Sarah Homes and we had no bad experiences with them. There is a lady who is building with them who you might want to track (I think her avatar was 'singlemum2daughters' or similar). Do a search on this forum under Sarah Homes and you might find her. All the best, Issy Re: Sarah Homes 3Apr 26, 2010 5:11 pm We are building through longridge who are under the Sarah banner. We have had a lot of problems since our site start, but they're ALL to do with our site supervisor. Yours will be different as our guy only does the longridge branch. When he was on leave we had one of the Sarah SS dudes for a couple of weeks. INFINITELY better even without knowing anything about the product. Wish we could have kept him!! All the best with your build. Re: Sarah Homes 4Apr 26, 2010 5:48 pm Hi guys, thanks so much for your replies. I was really excited about my new project until just a couple of days ago. I am building the smallest of them all, a little 2 bedroom, it's all I can afford. I'll be the only one living there...well me and my two dogs. Better than a caravan I guess. Hoping I'll feel better about it soon, and that I won't go broke waiting for the council and then the build. I tracked down singlemum2daughters and have sent her a PM. Her home seemed to run very smoothly. Thanks for the info about Longridge. Yes, I had read bad things about them. Apparently they have only one supervisor for the whole of Adelaide? That's crazy. Thanks again, Marie Re: Sarah Homes 5Apr 26, 2010 6:36 pm yep - one supervisor for all of Adelaide, and he's not the friendliest of chaps. We've had one problem after another with him. I haven't heard of any problems with Sarahs, though. The head office people are the same between all of the companies under sarah, and our only main problem with them was that the woman who did our colour selections made it clear that she was uninterested in us or our house, and made us feel rushed. You may not have to deal with her, so you may be fine. When we had the Sarah Homes SS on our job he was absolutely lovely, very informative and friendly, happy to make a phone call to chase up information, etc. Our SS refuses to make ANY phone calls no matter what the urgency (ie, a water meter BROKEN and spewing water for 5 days before I give up and have it fixed myself. A wonky wall that should have been fixed at frame stage but now has gyprock on it, cabinets attached to it, expensive stone bench tops cut to match the slope. A window with a cigarette burn in it that has now been so permanently fixed in place as to make it near impossible to fix the problem without damaging internal and external walls to get to it - more annoying since he's known about that one since mid december and STILL not told the carpenter to fix it - and our contracted completion date is next week). Our problems could have been fixed easily months ago and all it would have taken is about 5 phone calls. Now they're big problems. He is not forthcoming with information, but is very forthcoming with excuses. It is the most stressful way to build a house, and it seriously need not be. I seriously doubt that you would even remotely suffer any of these problems. I'd never EVER recommend Longridge to ANYONE. I wouldn't be concerned about Sarah, however. It's just a shame that they're both under the same banner. Re: Sarah Homes 6Jun 28, 2010 8:06 pm Hi yes i have built with s* homes.
