Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 24, 2010 4:27 pm Posted this in the right forum but no responses in there yet so am hoping I might get some advice in here..... Hi, Have read through alot about "home Automation" stuff through searching through these forums but everything and all the terminology is going straight over my head!! Our house is at framing stage and DH suggested we get speakers in the alfresco for music. So we have fairly basic needs. Don't think we need a Home theatre as such. The amount of movies we do watch I think the sound sounds ok as it is coming from the plasma. We have an old stereo which we haven't used for ages which we could use if needed but generally when we listen to music in the house we live in now- I just listen to our Itunes library through the computer speakers! Or put a CD into the DVD player. We also have an ipod but no dock. What would you advise we do in our house?? Can you somehow hook up an ipod to some ceiling speakers or should be get the dvd player hooked up to speakers? This might be a problem though if the kids are inside wanting to watch a movie and we are wanting to be outside listening to music. Hopefully by reading this someone will realise I HAVE NO clue and will give me some adice in basic terms! Thanks in advance Michelle Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32574 Re: Help with Home Automation/ wanting to put speakers in al 2Apr 24, 2010 5:31 pm We are having a setup where we have speakers in the ceiling in both bathrooms, dining room and alfresco. Each area has it's own input and volume control in the room, but all have a master input located in my office. So we will have the entire iTunes library hooked up to all, but if someone wants to override and play their own playlists they can just plug in to where they are. Can't remember if it was the clipsal branded setup or something else, but it is all apparently CBUS compatible (as is pretty much our whole house!). Might be part of our starserv setup... will see if I can dig up info on what it is. I can't see why it wouldn't be useable in a single area or with one input instead of local and master. Thanks somewoman, that would be awesome if I could control the music from our study using itunes. What is CBUS?? I am very un-educated when it comes to this sort of stuff! Also, how much did it all cost you? Build thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32574 Re: Help with Home Automation/ wanting to put speakers in al 4Apr 24, 2010 7:38 pm I did mine a pretty cheap way. I have a theatre set up and run the speaker cable from the alfresco to the theatre. I then used the "B" speakers on the amp in the theatre to control the alfresco speakers.
