Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 24, 2010 4:19 am A year ago when we finally decided to build our own house, rather than buy someone else,a friend who had gone through the nerve breaking process of building one warned me about the cons of building. we gave it a thought on on much research found DFH a buider with good reviews. We finally bought a block of land around 1000sq m and told DFH that we were ready to go ahead with them.We decided to go ahead with the landcaster design as it was the same as the expensive Flinders without the expensive add ons like ceaser stone bench tops, and designer doors and handles, etc. They made us pay the initial deposit in oct 09 and said they would get started with the contract papers as they wanted us to get the FHOG which was ending in dec09.we were really happy till then and were glad that we made the right choice by going for DFH.contracts were signed with variations on them as we decided to get evaporative cooling, tiling and carpet, oaving and concreting, etc done privately. Our final drawings by the builder werent right as we wanted the plan flipped and the lady at the sales said that will be done in the final contract once the tradies come back from their break, post christmas.FINE.asked when would the work get started, she said it should be started by march 10.we were supposed to go for an much needed overseas trip in April for 3 weeks, but the lady asked us to postpone it as she wanted us to approve the base and frame stage before we left.we delayed our plan by a couple of months. As march passed by we kept asking about the building date and they told us that they were yet to get council permission.with a couple of weeks left now for us to go away, they finally cleared and levelled the land on wed 22nd april. We have been told that the plumber will come on next wed and the base should be started by friday.Have been also assured that the i wont be able to see the frame stage go up before i leave,so am a bit worried about it.Had a meeting with the nuider today and the buider seemed a lot more assuring. He said he had a dead line of completing his project in 5 and half months,so thats a good start. Things havent started well, rather very stressful and from what I am told this is just a part of the building process, there is lots to come(this comes from my friends who have recently finished buidling).Hope things start falling in place smoothly henceforth. This site has helped me a lot as this is our first house to be built. Will keep updating everyone with the recent progress.Hope to hear your feedbacks and get your opinion. I have no idea how to upload pics or images on the post.need some help with that. thanks. Building a home is one the most emotional experiences your likely to go through. I wind down by logging into Homeone, it definitely makes you realise that your not alone, and many others share similar experiences with their builders too.
