I have a feeling we'll end up doing something like that outside of our theatre at some point as watching movies and getting the full dark effect is important to us, but our budget is more important at this point so may be down the road. N&N--I have to do some more pricing but I think we're going to do your basic verticals on the sliding doors, but in a charcoal colour so that may add a little more blockout effect than lighter ones. Some of our windows are awnings so with those windows we are considering roller blinders for those. The roof tiles look like they are complete but I noticed some tiles are just resting on top and not secure so a little more tiling work. We also put in electrical for a future AC during handback this weekend and ran cables for our theatre sound system. Busy weekend, Brickies tomorrow!! I was thinking this as well or maybe some sheer curtains. I saw some really nice ones at fr33dom the other day. And...lovely bricks too - can't wait to see the pics when they go up You're build is going super fast Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Photo Update 11/7 84Jul 13, 2010 5:33 pm Just went around to see what the brickies got up to today. Was expecting to see a little more than one row done all the way around the house. But hey, I won't complain...it's a start! They also put in the temporary front door and garage door into the house. Won't be long until they try to keep me out. After that, it goes up much faster though. Yeah I figured that out later NB. Couldn't figure why in one day that's all they would do, but makes sense they really need to get that first row level and right. I can't wait to go over later today. It's been two days since then so I should get to see some brick up today!! woohoo!! Pictures later! Considering we picked from the standard range, it was the only brick I even liked that wasn't an upgrade. My fears were... 1. The brick would be too light with the monument. I think it looks great! 2. The brick would be too cream, as my whole rental is CREAM I am over it. It looks cream in the sun, but I am happy. 3. I should have gone with white mortar upgrade. I think the natural concrete looks good and makes it from getting too washed out with the dark windows and roof. 4. That I should have stuck with what I wanted, a dark garage door, even though the colours lady told me it would be too much darkness. Seeing it, I should have gone with my guts, but surfmist will look nice too. Fears not necessary...I likey!! Scaffolding was in place on Wednesday to do upper story bricking and resisting the urge to go to the house for TWO whole days expecting to see finished bricks. There was no progress with the bricking. The was a big delivery of plasterboards and the upstairs walls had all the batting in place, the bags of batting were down stairs for the ceilings. Hoping that means a BIG week next week! Off to Bunnings and possibly Super Amart is inbetween home and Bunnings to price out a few things today, blinds, more laminate flooring, mail boxes, clothes line and possible storage units for inside the WIR. Don't know how this is going to go because dh wants me to take both kids so he can get some lesson plans finished. May be a short trip! Can't wait to go back and have a better look!! Had an update today. The eaves will be completed tomorrow. Awaiting external garage doors or else they'd be able to keep me out if they wanted. All the plasterboards are up so I would assume cornices up tomorrow. She said fix carpenter on site next week. Not sure what that even means?? On Thursday I did a big house day out. Went to a few more flooring places to get more quotes. The Quickstep that I want I was orginally quoted $50 a sq m, found it for $36 a sq m. YAY! Does that sound about right? We are installing it ourselves so it is going to end up costing us $2700 for the laminate. I posted about carpet in the flooring section what I'll post it here as well. We are going budget and I have chosen a cheap polypropylene carpet. It looks nice enough. It's a solid charcoal colour with a textured line look. It ended up being $4300 to install it over 140 sqm. Has or is anyone else using polypropylene that can give me input. Should I be putting in the extra money to get SDN? We are fine with the prospect that we are going to have to recarpet in a few years since the kids are such little disasters! I still haven't made up my mind on the blinds, so many things to decide on!!! We just went for the cheapest like yourself as I thought we will probably end up changing it to something better later on! Cornices then kitchen and carpets!!!!!!!!!! Woohooo! Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Bricks Finished-Let there be wa 99Jul 29, 2010 7:52 pm Beautiful mm - it all looks great!! Yay - great price on your timber flooring!! As for your carpets, well imho I would go for the most expensive you can afford. We are getting SDN carpets with upgraded underlay. We got ours through our builder for $35 per sqm which I think is a good price. I think c@rp3t c@ll had it on special a few weeks back for this price as well (normally $45 per sqm). Maybe worth checking out - but not sure if the sale is still on though Re: Mumma's House~Doulton Q3~Bricks Finished-Let there be wa 100Jul 29, 2010 9:27 pm I second what n&n02 says. Polypropylene is not the best carpet - we have it in our rental and I hate it. I remember the carpet cleaner guy telling me that polypropylene carpets only last a few years and really fade where windows are. We are too going for SDN as this was recommended by everybody we spoke too and it is especially recommended for people with kids. But of course, you can only do what you have the $$$ for at the time. We found a carpet we really liked at one of the major retailers, but it was exclusively their carpet. We spoke to a carpet and flooring shop on the Sunshine Coast where DH works, and they rang the supplier and managed to get a roll of it because the stock was more than 100 days old. We got a great price for it. PM me if you want more details. Bricks are looking fantastic too. I think that "fix carpenter" will mean that your skirting, architraves and internal doors will happen next.
