Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 15, 2009 10:23 pm We were at the Boral Brick Display the other day and settled on the Cleveland brick (we are having the "Loft" Colorbond Roof). Yesterday, we realised that our old neighbours appeared to have the Cleveland brick on their home.
So l asked her if this was the case and today she advised that her brick is actually the "Glenrowan". The thing is, it is not on the Boral website at all! l do remember seeing it at the display in a blend, so it does still exist!.....Too add to the confusion, the Cleveland brick on the Boral site looks way way redder (and hardly any chocolate tones) than what l saw at the display centre? So if anyone has built with either of these bricks, l would dearly love to see some pics of your home or of the bricks themselves, l'm not fussy, lol. I really want to be clear on what each brick looks like. Thanks! Edit 16/1/09- I found out today from Boral that the Glenrowan brick has been discontinued but the Ripponlea is actually the same brick, yay! but it's just not tumbled So if anyone has pics of the Ripponlea or the Cleveland, l'd love to see them. Thread title has been changed accordingly. Re: Anyone built with "Ripponlea" Boral Bricks? 7Jan 29, 2009 11:08 pm joles What colour are those bricks as a matter of interest? Red, brown? Hi Joles, Both, lol It's got some reds and a few shades of browns..here's a pic of it http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t271/diamondzoe/Elan-Gallery-Standard-Ripponlea.jpg I'm planning on having the roof in Colorbond - Loft (deep chocolate brown), gutter the same, fascia in classic cream, windows in primrose and mortar in cream. Though, since l'm not having any eaves *sniffs* l dunno if the cream fascia is gonna make it stick out like dogs b*lls and look weird, so l'm debating whether to just go with Loft for the fascia instead?? I went looking around at no eaves houses today, taking note of what fascia people had. I found that if they had a light brick (creams etc) then the cream fascia with the dark roofs looked good, but on a darker bricks the cream fascia really stuck out.....but then again, some roof colours people had didn't suit the bricks imo anyway.... I got my appointment with the builder tomorrow to finalize colours and l dunno what to do.... can anyone offer any opinions on which way to go? Play safe and go Loft all the way (but will that the cream windows look out of place, even though l've got cream mortar (which will be raked)?? or do l stick with cream fascias so as to not make the house possibly too dark looking??? Re: Anyone built with "Ripponlea" Boral Bricks? 9Jan 29, 2009 11:39 pm XT4V go with the gut feeling, its always right hey XT, you got my email ok?...and sorry if l sent your pic back in reply! Hmm, l'm pretty good with my gut feelings, but on this l dunno......like many of the decisions about this house, lol.....l've only got one shot at it and have to get it right, so l'm probably overanalysing everything to death! lol...... I'm sure the best way to go will make itself known to me somehow (it's already happened twice! lol) Thanks again for your help Re: Anyone built with "Ripponlea" Boral Bricks? 10Jan 29, 2009 11:44 pm hey there, got the email & replied.. all good, i'll do what I can to help.
I think what you mentioned to me in email will work quite well.... but then again, i'm a bloke Cheers Rob Re: Anyone built with "Ripponlea" Boral Bricks? 11Jan 30, 2009 5:57 am Hi Thorney. My instinct would be to keep it all the same if you are not sure. We weren't sure about the fascia colour either but in the end are glad we kept it all the same as the roof (woodland grey in our case).
It sounds like the windows will match your mortar which will be nice. What other colours are on your facade? Front door? Any render? Garage door? Downpipes? Re: Anyone built with "Ripponlea" Boral Bricks? 12Jan 30, 2009 7:08 am Hi donuts,
If our house had eaves it would've been a no-brainer, as our friends house that we are kinda copying from has eaves. Seeing ours won't, that is where the doubt is coming in. The garage will be in Colorbond timbagrain (Cabao), front door painted to match, downpipes to match the brick (whether they go with a reddy brown or chocolate brown, l'm not fussed about). The only thing that will be rendered is the portico. At the moment we've gone with Solver Sandstone, but the CC at the paint shop said it might be best to wait til the front is done and then pick the colour. So overall, we don't have alot of colours happening really. With the garage and front doors being dark, that is why l'm questioning that if l go the Loft for the fascia as well, the house overall might look too dark? Re: Anyone built with "Ripponlea" Boral Bricks? 13Jan 30, 2009 7:14 am I'm a big fan of contrasting fascia and guttering. I'd go the cream for fascia and the loft for guttering. Your windows are cream? Then it will tie in with your windows and the guttering.
That's what I'd do. And also... thanks for the pic of the brick. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Anyone built with "Ripponlea" Boral Bricks? 14Jan 30, 2009 2:47 pm so is this right?
bricks - ripponlea garage - timber front door - timber render - solver sandstone roof - loft gutters - loft downpipes - red or choc brown (would this be loft?) fascia - cream windows - cream (lol I'm turning into Michelle! ) Re: Anyone built with "Ripponlea" Boral Bricks? 17Jan 30, 2009 2:59 pm ^^yeah I know.... but from memory it is eggplanty I'm sure that's what Michelle said.....
If it's for the roof Thorney, make sure you view a large sample in the sun just to be sure it's what you're after. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself.
