Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 19, 2007 5:44 pm I've just been informed by my builder that if I don't want to buy the airconditioning through them, any company I use can't come in to install air conditioning until after handover.
Is this a common thing? How does it affect getting ducted? Re: Air Conditioning 2Sep 19, 2007 5:51 pm Hi Natbut
I too decided not to go with my builder on the airconditioning unit which they specified due to the sheer cost (quote come in just under 9k for two split systems), and unfortunately am unable to have it installed until construction of the home is complete as well. I did however have my builder provide me with the provisions needed for a small cost. Unsure on the impact it will have on your installation of ducted cooling however......I'm sure someone lurking through the forum will know. Re: Air Conditioning 3Sep 19, 2007 5:58 pm air conditioning, including ducted is fitted to existing houses all the time, after all, its not just new houses that get ducted air.
It wont be a issue to install once the house is completed (unless you are 2 storey, the ducting between the 2 levels may be an issue). Just go to a AC dealer and get a quote, tell them the house wont be finished until X date. The price difference should be negligable. Re: Air Conditioning 4Sep 19, 2007 5:59 pm Is the builder installing ducted heating?
If so, and you are intending to install add-on cooling i think you will to uprgade the duct size etc as well.... Built Porter Davis "Dromana" 2007. Is this a common thing? Yes, Clarendon is one of them. Though you can pre-dutcted with builder, you would not get too much credit back when you install the unite after the hand over. but You may have the better brand to choose. Re: Air Conditioning 6Sep 19, 2007 9:02 pm Our builder is the same it can't be done until after handover Re: Air Conditioning 7Sep 21, 2007 12:03 am It seems quite common in Sydney. if you don't get their air con, you can't install it during the construction.
One other option is to get your builder to do the ducting pipes connection, then you decide on which machine to install after handover... Double 16 mm gyprock and double or staggered studs will probably get your walls to around 62-65 Rw/57-60 Rw+Ctr. The you would to invest into double/triple glazed windows. 7 1563 Use 50mm rockwool fibre insulation if it concerns you that much. 4 14555 How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 2488 |
