Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building the Vasse @ Harrisdale WA - we're locked up! 41Oct 14, 2010 1:44 pm That's a bit steep for tiling!! You really should give my tiler a call - John 0401 266 882. He's brilliant... he charges around $70/mtr (incl screeding-you supply grout) but you also can rest easy that you'll be getting a perfect job done. Just be sure the tiles you choose aren't bowed and that they're all the same batch number otherwise you'll get different shades (but he'll advise you on all that anyway). There are many cowboys out there who call themselves a tiler but they just lay the tiles & don't care how the finish looks- as long as they get paid. Particularly with porcelain- you can't have any corners sticking up. John's a perfectionist & such a nice guy. He works in your area because I had him do a home in Canningvale. Don't make any decisions til you give him a call. Good luck Suzy Re: Building the Vasse @ Harrisdale WA - we're locked up! 42Oct 14, 2010 2:49 pm Thanks suzi...will definately give him a ring. Do you have any pics of your flooring? Would love to see more pics of other people's porcelain floors just to get more ideas. Anyways we're heading to osborne park this saturday morning to visit the various tile shops, and hopefully decide on what we want (if we can find someting we both like We've also been busy getting quotes for other jobs like painting and paving. Painting is gonna cost us $3500....but we dont really have a choice though as we just wouldn't be able to manage painting the whole house (just the two of us) plus look after our 7 month old. 12 March 2010 - Land titles received 3 April 2010 - Signed building contract 14 April 2010 - Prestart 28 April 2010 - Loan approved 30 June 2010 - Slab completed 27 August 2010 - Brickwork completed 22 September 2010 - Roofing completed 30 September 2010 - Internal walls plastered 12 October 2010 - Lock Up 19 November 2010 - PCI 26 November 2010 - Handover 29 December 2010 - Moved In https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32584 Re: Building the Vasse @ Harrisdale WA - we're locked up! 43Oct 14, 2010 3:57 pm Hi allana We have the same builder I just realised. What a headache! There's so many out there, it'll do your head in. As for photos... I'm sorry but I don't have any. Will be taking pics in the future tho. I just joined the forum recently so didn't even think before now that I'd need any. The homes we've built til now have been development/investment homes which we've either leased out or sold. I'll be getting my tiler into the next home in about 3 months time so will be sure to get pics of his work then. I look forward to reading about the progress of your home. Don't breath in Asbestos Re: Building the Vasse @ Harrisdale WA - we're locked up! 47Oct 18, 2010 4:11 pm So over the weekend we went looking for tiles, lost count of the number of shops we went to and almost done our heads in. But finally settled on one we like....damage to the wallet will be $68/sqm. Abit more than what we budgeted for but we didnt want to compromise and get something we may regret later. As for the tiler, we'll be going with a mate's tiler who did their home recently. He charges $75/sqm but at least we've seen his workmanship first hand so we feel comfortable that he can do it right first time. Popped into the house this morning and there was a guy in there installing the bathroom vanity. Kitchen cabinets and benchtops all arrived as well. Hi we have the same CLO. Our experience has been ok, I guess ours was more complicated because we did a knock down re-build. As long as the house is built well and I can see progress I can forgive some administrative/contract stuff ups. So far so good for us, we're up to roof framing at the moment. Here's what they did while i was away... - external painting (render, eaves, gutter, facia, downpipes) - garage grano - oven and stovetop - light points and power points - taps and shower heads - robe sliding doors Feels like we're on the home straight now....just pending a few more stuff like internal door painting, door knobs, shower screens, vanity mirrors, flyscreens, carpets, blinds and of course driveway paving. ZM, our benchtops are just laminex squareform (Stipple Seal, normal finish). We initially wanted stone tops but was over our budget.... Managed to get one picture only....our stovetop. 700mm Technika. However, was much more dissapointed with the fitting of the sliding doors to the robes. In two bedrooms the doors don't sit flush with the frame when fully closed. I posted a few pics in the other thread (viewtopic.php?f=23&t=40661&p=608200#p608200), but anyway here are a couple of pics: You can see how the door looks wonky. I've checked with a spirit level and it is in fact the brickwork behind the frame that is not trully vertical. So is it the brickwork/float/plaster on the side of the door that's not straight? I guess with a gap that big it would start with the bricks hey. I think I might check my robe walls now cos we're having the same doors! Have you contacted your builder and/or had any response from them about it? I believe its a combination of a couple of issue, one being the wall is not 100% straight....as confirmed by my spirit level. But its only off by a little...and i suppose that slight imperfection combined with the doors themselves not being adjusted well contributes to the large gaps we have. I've since checked the bottom of the rollers and yes there is an adjustment screw at the bottom to adjust the allignment. I didnt try to adjust it though....will leave it to them to sort this out. 12 March 2010 - Land titles received 3 April 2010 - Signed building contract 14 April 2010 - Prestart 28 April 2010 - Loan approved 30 June 2010 - Slab completed 27 August 2010 - Brickwork completed 22 September 2010 - Roofing completed 30 September 2010 - Internal walls plastered 12 October 2010 - Lock Up 19 November 2010 - PCI 26 November 2010 - Handover 29 December 2010 - Moved In https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32584 Re: Building the Vasse @ Harrisdale WA - kitchen cabinets in 57Nov 05, 2010 1:16 pm Oh well, hopefully it gets fixed properly.
