Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 18, 2010 8:36 pm Does anyone know if the quality and standards of material used by my builder is of average/below average or good from the following : Timber Grade : The packages state that the grading of the timber is F17s hardwood and also MGP10 is this a good quality pine ? and what is H3 rated pine against H4 rated pine ,what is it used for in terms of framing for houses 90x35 timber is what is used for my frame ,shouldnt they be using 90x45 . Battens on the roof : are timber battens better than zinc ? The packages that were delivered were stamped structural framing "laser frame" Iam guessing they are the frame manufacturers. If I contact them will they give me a Truss ,frame & bracing layout " so the private inspector will know if everything is in the right place. finally what else should I be looking for? Re: Frame Standards & Quality 3Apr 19, 2010 9:02 pm txs borg , back to square one again with regards to the structural plan for the "truss and frame Layout ". I rang Carter Holt and Harvey and spoke to a person who is a technician .He says they dont do the truss layout specifications ,that I should speak to the truss manufacturers. They only supply the timber and specialise in grades etc, Who the hell are the truss manufacturers? AS 1684 standards for Residential timber and & framed construction seems the only document available when it comes to trusses and frames .Bizzare when you think each house is designed separately. Hi andy Not sure whether this may help you (unsure if you are building in Vic). We actually had some paperwork left on site at the time of our build which indicates our trusses were manufactured by Timbertruss Geelong Pty Ltd Cnr Crows Road and Barown Heads Road, Belmont 3216 Phone 03 5244 8400 Fax 03 5241 2790 A booklet was found discarded on site which was "Fixing & Bracing Guidlelines for Timber Roof Trusses......maybe you could phone them and ask for a copy! Re: Frame Standards & Quality 5Apr 20, 2010 4:25 pm Andy some manufacturers stamp there name on the ply bracing around the house so you could find them that way. I recommend asking the builder who the manufacturer is as even if you find out and call them they will probably be reluctant to give you that info without the builders permission. Re: Frame Standards & Quality 6Apr 20, 2010 6:03 pm txs guys ,finally I sourced the truss manufacturer and it only took a phone call to get a copy of truss layout plan. Iam waiting on the frame layout to be emailed . I will be having some serious words with my CLO and this will be mostly directed to the construction manager of carlisle. This is 100% true. You can not hang anything on steel frames. very frustrating 8 8036 Building Standards; Getting It Right! Don't think they are designed for double brick.
