Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 18, 2010 11:10 am I am building a ranch style house at Mt Barker SA. The base course was meant to be 2 bricks high (according to plans). It has however been built 4 bricks high which is the same level as the window sill bricks. I am concerned that it might look silly once the sill bricks are in place. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Will it look OK if left? Should I insist it goes back to the original plan (is this possible with brickwork?). I don't want to be too picky but then we are paying good money for the house to be as we wanted. Any help and advice would be great. Re: Brick base course too high - Is it ok? What are my optio 2Apr 18, 2010 11:44 am I think, if anything, having it the same level as the window sill bricks will help. Looking at it now it is VERY obvious from the different colours that they are at different levels, and it looks like somebody got something wrong. It's too up-down-up-down-up-down. Once the sill bricks go in and bring it all back to level it will look perfect. I think you should thank them for it Re: Brick base course too high - Is it ok? What are my optio 3Apr 18, 2010 11:49 am Hi Peter, Knowing what I know now-STICK WITH THE PLAN!!! Its your $$, your house, and your right to have it built just how you want. I'd get stuck into your builder before too much more brickwork is done. Personally, I think it would look odd up that high. BTW, what is your your house plan? I'm building a 'ranch' style too (23.5x14 mtrs). You don't see many of these wider houses being built nowadays. Most designs are narrower and deeper (suits the "urbanisation" house blocks, I suppose- all house and no play) All the best and keep us posted, Issy. Re: Brick base course too high - Is it ok? What are my optio 4Apr 18, 2010 11:55 am I agree with Somewoman here - I actually think the bricks being at the height of window sills will frame it better - just so long as they match it with 4 from the top and not 2. But it is your house and if you're not happy with it get it fixed. Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Re: Brick base course too high - Is it ok? What are my optio 5Apr 18, 2010 11:55 am Der me! I had a blonde moment and thought you were meaning that damp proof plastic stuff that they put in at the 2nd brick up. So now I agree with somewoman- once the sills go in at will look great. BUT they should still stick to the plan, and quote from my DOH "plans should be left as plans are!!" If so, then it will look as if it was always meant to be that way. What are my optio 10Apr 25, 2010 9:30 am The site supervisor mentioned the base course and said it was to ensure the quoins finished with 3 bricks (as per the pattern) at the top.
