Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 13, 2010 10:45 pm Hi Everyone, I have decided that after much lurking and reading everyone elses posts that I would start a thread as well that I can update. A bit about us - hubby and I are currently up in Port Hedland WA trying to make the most of hubby working in the mines and being able to pay off some debt and be able to live a dream of ours which has been to build our own home We are from Warragul in Vic - and have brought a block of land in Drouin in the Kensington Estate. Our block was meant to settle in March, and still hasnt settled. I think it will be looking around early May for settlement. This is fine with us as we are not wanting to start build until around Feb next year, which gives us a bit of time to pay off our cars and some of the block....ARGH hate car loans! lol We had gone around to numerous display homes and fell in love with The Rio by Aaron J Homes and have paid our deposit. It has the exact outlay which we love and one day when we have kidlets it is exactly what we want. We get to choose our colours in June when we fly home so I am on the net every day almost obsessed looking at colour schemes The only thing that I am going to struggle with is if we are still up here when the build is taking place we wont be able to visit our builds like everyone else and will be bugging our parents to take a lot of photos! lol Would be great to chat to other people who know anything about aaron j homes, or people who want to have a chat, i am on here most days I will attend to load some photos of our block... had to get our parents to take pics... I love the view we are going to have though, it is gorgeous! Thanks Everyone! I love your layout We're building a similar plan (very jealous of you activity room at the back!) in Pakenham, so not too far from you either. I love Drouin, it has such a cool country community feel to it. Colours are so addictive aren't they?? I can't stop thinking about it!!! What are you colours thinking? ~W~ Building our forever home - Lilium Estate Clyde - Land due May 2019 Built our first home - Pakenham - 2011 Re: Our First Build - We are Building The Rio! 5Apr 14, 2010 9:32 pm YAY I got a reply lol - Yeah we like Drouin as well, our block is out a little bit and with the view it seems more country and the blocks all around us are quite big. Just up the road its kinda like little acre blocks with horses etc so very nice. All our family is in Warragul so that is only 15 minutes away. Yes I love the activity room, will come in handy when we have kiddies, but also a good place for my piano for now as well. Umm yeah colours, i am sooo addicted to looking on here - I am thinking rather neutral, biege throughout the house - Maybe a dark chocolate underneath cupboards in the kitchen with antique white cupboards up the top - unsure about benchtop as yet and some sort of light coloured glass splashback.... i like dark carpet and we have upgraded to get better quality so we will stick with a dark grey carpet (only in the bedrooms and first living room) then white tiles elsewhere. Both bathrooms will match the kitchen, so white and chocolate if we decide to go with that. Who are you building with? How is your build going?? So I don't have a HEAP of details about how it all works. Orientation is next Saturday so hopefully I'll have lots more info then. My blog explains it better I love the dark cupboards and light bench top!! I'm hoping for gloss black and white tops, like you keeping neutral, but with grey tones instead of beige. I've always been a monochrome kinda girl. Highlights the red hair! Will you guys be in WA during the build and move back when its done??? ~W~ Building our forever home - Lilium Estate Clyde - Land due May 2019 Built our first home - Pakenham - 2011 Re: Our First Build - We are Building The Rio! 7Apr 14, 2010 9:56 pm Hey mate, so you are doing owner building that would be good but i imagine very busy! I also love black and cant decide to do a black/white kitchen, if you see any good examples let me know Yeah hubby will def be over here during the build, he has to earn the $$ lol - I might be flying back and forth..if not we are lucky our parents can keep an eye on it for us.
