I'm no expert, but I would'nt call it normal, though not sure if its something you need to worry about that much. Previous one I saw like that, some poster who knew what he was on about said the concrete had'nt been compacted down properly or something. I bet it occurs to alot of slabs, but most people don't notice/care. I'm sure someone who knows exactly the deal will post soon - bit you might want to change your thread title/give it more detail to attract them. I wouldnt worry to much about it its faily common some are finished really nicely on the edges others are a little messy on the edges in the end its nothing you will see and the foundation will be fine. Main things to look for on a slab is the overall finish and that its flat. The only exposed concrete will be in the Garage unless you are having the Garage floor finished aswell. Will the bricks stand steady of the rough edges ? (where there is broken concrete) Can the builders pour more concrete and provide even finish/ clean edges ? He is a nice guy. However I'm not fully convienced with the explanation he has given. He said the slab looks ok to him and when I pointed to the slab next to me which was poured on the same day with very good finish, his answer was they might have used different concrete. In my opinion, all builder use same 20 MPa concrete and the defects are purely due to poor compaction and/or concrete was very stiff at the time of pour. I have asked my admin to get some comments from their so called independant inspector. Re: Slab doesn't look good-Meeting SS soon-Expert Advise nee 12Apr 19, 2010 1:57 am It looks similar to my slab but probably a bit better, I made a thread on this so do a search. The concreter didn't compact the concrete well enough eg. didn't mechanically vibrate the concrete therefore honeycombing or air pockets/voids in the slab occurred. Anyway, I had concerns with my slab and got the building surveyor/inspector out to assess and he said he believes it is normal but will get an engineer in to assess. I'm still waiting for the engineer's approval report. It probably is fine but to make sure send an email to the your builder with the photo attached and ask it to be assessed by an engineer or building surveyor, if they don't get the details of the building surveyor either through the cso if can't and you know who the building surveyor is search on the net for their email/contact details and send them your concern. This way at least you have evidence that you notified them of your concerns and if in the future there are problems with the structural integrity of the slab then you can use it as evidence in tribunal/court etc. Re: Slab doesn't look good-Meeting SS soon-Expert Advise nee 14Apr 19, 2010 10:14 pm Its not too bad.
