Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 12, 2010 9:43 pm Hi all... It's a very broad request, and hopefully I'll make sense of it when I write it Our house is getting closer to completion, and I want to try hit the ground running with my audio studio, and part of the plan is to install a wall to wall desk to place the bulk of my equipment on. The length of the wall in question is 3110mm (3.1m) and I'm looking to have something quite thick in it's depth (maybe around 2-3 inches, it's hard as I don't have a ruler right now !), and can withstand holding up a computer & monitor, an audio rack (not known the weight at the moment) and other odds and ends. It would also have a cutout at the centre back to allow for cables to run to the power & phone & ethernet points below. Who would I speak to in regards to building this, and any idea of cost ? I know a carpenter can and probably will do it, but hopefully someone might have some past experience or know a specialist. I've seen the wall to wall thing done in a couple of M$Con homes in the same manner for a study, so I know it can be done. Re: Looking For Someone To Make Me A Desk..... 3Apr 12, 2010 10:22 pm Your best bet would be have it made by a cabinet maker. They would do a better job than the builder.... p.s Suh that looks great!!! Mine is 3.6 metres long with 2 filing cabinet drawers and then 6 overhead cupboards. $2800. Will post some pics next week when it gets installed. Esp when its that long. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torsion_box Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I'd offer but you're a touch too far away! My thread has been deleted... Re: Looking For Someone To Make Me A Desk..... 7Apr 15, 2010 3:34 pm A cheaper bet might be Progressive Office Furniture. I've been to the Preston store and ordered from them a few times. There are others stores in the east too. I believe they can make anything up for you as they do shop fit outs and stuff as well as selling furniture for smaller offices. They can also make your desk in the Laminex range so you can tie it in nicely with what's already in your house. That's what we're doing! http://www.progressiveoffice.com.au/ Re: Looking For Someone To Make Me A Desk..... 8Apr 15, 2010 8:17 pm Felistopher A cheaper bet might be Progressive Office Furniture. The laminex matching sounds quite good as we've got matching benchtops throughout the kitchen/laundry...although I'm thinking of doing a feature wall in more of a blue color - but i'm sure there's something that would fit in there too. Re: Looking For Someone To Make Me A Desk..... 9Apr 15, 2010 8:55 pm Thanks for that link Fel! We're looking at doing something similar too Not sure who you're building with, but I moved in recently to a 11month scheduled, 8 month actual build on the South coast/Illawarra NSW 3 5901 I posted the floorplan on Houzz.com forum and got some really good ideas and advice from people there. Then we reached out to a couple of renovation companies and one… 5 10018 at most it will have a short lintel which could be moved up just below the ceiling or even above. Above means you need to patch the cornice and might need to deal with… 2 61339 |
