You dont see many of them cos most people go with a standard builders plan thing that dont really get changed. When it is customed always good to critique for people! and also to see it drawn up to scale. shame... Re: 3D Visualizations! Can this be useful to new home builde 27May 10, 2010 2:12 pm Hi Nathan, Really like your work and website. I'm doing a custom design as well and have used My Virtual Home as the package. It finally got me there with a very nice walk through and some pictures but it was bloody hard work. One of the problems I still face with it is the materials selection. It's suppose to have real samples from building companies but it doesn't really have a wide selection. Bricks, for example. Some Austral, a couple of Boral but none of the PGH range. Similar for roof tiles. So I can ge close, but I can't achieve the right match to what I'm going to build. How does the program you're using get around that issue? One other thing I hated was that you couldn't click on a room and then go to a box to define the measurements. You have to drag it to the right size and the resolution wasn't always good enough to give you the exact dimensions. Does your program allow that? Thanks. SK. Yes its great to be able to see the design before its built. The program that I use allows me to actually import new materials and colors so i can basically match anything. The tricky part is when you go to render the 3D visualization through a program called pov-ray you have to play around with the light settings and lights alot so that you can get a realistic match with shadows, reflections and contrasts, that takes some playing around. With my program yes it allows me to dimension all walls instead of just dragging, it is partly CAD based.
