Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 21Apr 11, 2010 6:21 pm Im not fussed about whether the door is sliding or hinged and I dont mind the toilet in the open area of the bathroom - but Yes, definetely a vote for a door here too The poster who wrote about needing to see a spa for re-sale value - sorrry, I dont get that, surely people looking thru your house will open doors and see whats behind them - and resale value of haveing a door (which majority are in favour of, judgeing by previous threads on the topic) would counteract that IMO Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 22Apr 11, 2010 6:26 pm Helyn Im not fussed about whether the door is sliding or hinged and I dont mind the toilet in the open area of the bathroom - but Yes, definetely a vote for a door here too The poster who wrote about needing to see a spa for re-sale value - sorrry, I dont get that, surely people looking thru your house will open doors and see whats behind them - and resale value of haveing a door (which majority are in favour of, judgeing by previous threads on the topic) would counteract that IMO its just the wow factor thing....didnt wanna sound pretentious.... Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 24Apr 11, 2010 6:59 pm I love this topic. If I had a bathroom that had a WOW factor and a big spa I'd love to have no door (as long as the toilet was separate). Since we're have a humble ensuite I'll have a door and just dream about a Wow factor. BTW, no door is a barrier to screaming while waxing legs. Handover February 2011 Happy with our home Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 25Apr 11, 2010 7:04 pm I'm a ensuite-with-door kinda gal. There are things a lady has to do that I don't believe my husband needs to know about, but I'm a little old fashioned that way We also have a spa in our ensuite - still has a door though Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 26Apr 11, 2010 7:30 pm Twiggy We're going without and having the big opening. Our toilet is in a seperate room behind the shower, but that has a door. Ash and I both don't want to be seen taking care of business as it would be lol. We liked the look of the open ensuite, also it opens facing our WIR. There'll obviously be a bit of light spill over into the room, but even then it's still not going directly into the bed, so it shouldn't be an issue. Light isn't a huge issue in terms of waking the other for us. I do rotating shifts so I take my showers to follow those shifts and so they won't be a bother for Ash. If it's a morning start (0430) i'll shower at night. If it's night shift, I'll shower in the morning I have NEVER had sexual relations with that woman! Ash. Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 27Apr 11, 2010 8:14 pm Voting YES for a door on the ensuite. We have a hinged door planned on ours for the getting up a different times issue. That is of course once we get some contracts waiting, waiting , waiting In our current rental have a WIR that you walk through (no door) to get to an ensuite with a door. Not having a door on the WIR robe is a pain when you have to turn on the light to look for clothes. Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 28Apr 11, 2010 8:32 pm Our ensuite is down a hallway and we have a door on the actual entry way as well as a completely separate toilet room within it with it's own door. Plus all our minor ensuites in each bedroom also have doors. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 29Apr 11, 2010 8:46 pm Wow thanks for all your replies! i didn't expect so many so quickly! great forum. To answer some questions. Yes our toilet is in the same room as the ensuite, and the WIR is open from the ensuite. The entry of the ensuite is adjacent very close to the entry of the bedroom. i think i am leaning towards having the hinged door. i don't want to regret the choice 10 years down the track, because quite frankly who knows what our working situation will be then. my wife hates being woken up... Building with Places Homes - Glendale 23 (plus 2 square bonus). Stage 1j, Somerfield Estate, Keysborough. Sweet! Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 30Apr 11, 2010 8:51 pm Any door would suit me.... The ones with no doors are lovely to look at but not functional. My Dh get up earlier than me and I don't want to be woken up by the lights/shower or him on the toilet!!!! Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 31Apr 11, 2010 9:11 pm I'm a 'yes' for the ensuite door too ...my plan has a WIR on either side leading into the ensuite and I've included a sliding door. Not only do I like the privacy, but it does help prevent mould in the robes/bedroom...and the slider took up less room while allowing you to see into the ensuite if you liked. Hopefully it turns out the way I had hoped! Good luck with your build!! Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 32Apr 11, 2010 9:13 pm REfL3ct my wife hates being woken up... Happy wife = happy life. Get the door. Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 33Apr 11, 2010 9:17 pm royalblue Twiggy We're going without and having the big opening. Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 34Apr 11, 2010 9:25 pm we have no door... larger opening through ensuite, toilet seperate(no door) and through to the WIR with a door to prevent steam and dampness, This is all behind our bed... im hoping that its all ok we will soon find out lol Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 35Apr 11, 2010 9:48 pm We don't have a door to our ensuite but our bed sits around 7m's away from where the shower sits so we're not too concerned. I suppose it depends on your layout. Our house thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18335 Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 36Apr 11, 2010 10:05 pm Medsy We went no door..... We have a big spa in the ensuite so it needed to be seen for resale values....plus imagine the adult times that can be had.... Ewwww - that would reduce the price I would offer for a 2nd hand house. After all, I would have to replace the spa Re: Ensuit Door - Yes or No 37Apr 11, 2010 10:32 pm We decided on no doors to the ensuite. We've lived together in a house for 8 years now where the bathroom accross the hallway from our bedroom, we never shut either door. We do have a door to our toilet though. Not that there's anything wrong with that kind of thing... Black on light wood does look good.
