Best to choose a brick with colour that goes all the way through so if one chips it is not very noticeable. Also stick with standard morter. that way if repairs have to be done, they don't have to colour match which rearly seems to go to plan. I wish I had known and fully understood the painted brick problems....at least we did standard mortar so hopefully the replaced bricks aren't as noticable!! Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! I can see at least another 20 with large chips, and many more with smaller chips and/or washed off glaze so clay colour seeping through. I told SS I wasn't happy with what has been replaced - he said he'd go haev another look tomorrow as he hasn't seen what the brickie has done yet. He mentioned that some chips are normal and to be expected, but I said not that bloody many! So we will see what happens tomorrow, I amnot holding out much hope. Took hubby and kids round, and he doesn't seem to think its that a big a deal. He's not a huge fan of bricks and wanted render from the start anyway but I couldn't fit it in the budget, so he is happy to just accept it and render in a year or so. Is it wrong of me to be pedantic and want my brand new bloody expensive hosue to be perfect, not just almost perfect??? All I want are the bricks with big chips replaced so they look respectable, I'm not holding out any delusions of render (although along the facade where there are heaps of chips in the portico brick post wouldn't go astray!!) Will update tomorrow, trying not to think about it.... Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating.... DON'T GIVE UP......this is their ploy that you will tire of it and just let lie, especially now that you are this close to completion......... fight them to the end! I do admit you do tire of it all and many do just give up.... but this is one of the many reasons WHY your bricks and our mortar are defective!! They get away with too much. At the end of your contract period, they have to supply to you a home which is NO LESS in quality and standards than the display home from which you chose ........so if that display home did not have chipped bricks and bricks which are now devoid of colour finish...... well then your's shouldn't either. They will be in breach of Statutory Warrranties........and likewise too, for providing a brick cleaning trade who has not carried out the job "with reasonable care and skill".....refer Clause 11.1, 11.2 and 11.4 of your contract. Remember too whatever is promised ...... obtain a written undertaking from them outlining their intention! Re: Crappy bricks - what to do?? *update p2* 25Apr 19, 2010 5:14 pm My bricks now appear to be clean. Theres still a bit of stuff stuck to one or two, but generally they seem to have done a decent job from the quick look I have had, there are a few chipped ones but it doesnt seem as bad as yours caz.
