Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 06, 2010 12:29 pm Hi all, We are new members to this site and have been reading many of the reviews etc on Clarendon homes. We found it allreally helpful and informative and since we are about to build the Voltaire with Clarendon, we thought we would join up to report on our journey and progress. We have been going through the tender process with Clarendon and have now finally got everything figured out and drawn up. About 2.5 weeks ago we signed off on our plans, which should be submitted to council in the next week or two. We are building on a 25 acre property at Robertson in the Southern Highlands of NSW. I am a keen photo taker and will post pics throughout our journey. Re: Building The Voltaire With Clarendon Homes 2Apr 06, 2010 12:45 pm Our experience so far with Clarendon has been fantastic! Our tender person was amazing; nothing was too much trouble for her, even when we changed our mind on a couple of things after we just walked out of her office. She was very good at explaining everything in great detail so that we understood it all as we have never built before. The Colour lady, was great in speedily emailing back to me with prices on brick and colour option changes, and made the whole process very easy and simple. I have read on some other sites a few bad reviews on Clarendon but personally I think a lot of the really bad ones are competitors running them down, because our experience with them has been nothing but fantastic, and I would highly recommend them! Re: Building The Voltaire With Clarendon Homes 3Apr 30, 2010 9:41 pm Finally.. another person building a voltaire!! Very happy. We had our site scrape done week beginning 26th April, and yesterday they were putting in the foam for under the slab. i will be very interested to see your pictures as you progress!! Good Luck - don't worry, it wont be long, you will be building before you know it. Our council approved plans only took 3 weeks!! Hopefully yours will be quick too Re: Building The Voltaire With Clarendon Homes 5May 11, 2010 1:37 pm Hi NikKit, I am also so pleased to find someone else building a voltaire! What area are you building in? We are in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Our plans were just lodged to council yesterday and Clarendon have told me that the average approval time is about 4-5 weeks so wont be to long..... not that i'm impatient or anything! LOL Will post some pics up of our present bare site so you will be able to see the progress as we go. Great to hear from you and excited to watch your progress also! Re: Building The Voltaire With Clarendon Homes 6May 19, 2010 12:03 pm Have made a photobucket album with some photos of our site. http://s966.photobucket.com/albums/ae141/wishawglen/ Re: Building The Voltaire With Clarendon Homes 7May 19, 2010 12:04 pm We are booked to have our colour appointment this friday, so will post up some of the colours we choose etc next week. Re: Building The Voltaire With Clarendon Homes 8May 25, 2010 8:41 am Went for the colour appointment last friday. It was really great and very exciting choosing so many of the new items for our home. We are having walls painted Taubmans / Bristol Bendouin Beige, Ice Snow Ceasar Stone bench top in kitchen, Almond Rocca Ceasar stone vanity tops in bathroom, Bricks are Austral Marcasite, roof tiles are Contour Colour through Charchol, Kitchen cupboards are white polyurethane with brushed chrome bar handles, cambridge internal doors, and one single large front door instead of the glass side panels. We are also having laundry basket / cupboard built in to laundry bench, draws and over head cupboards, as well as some extra open bench space. Will most likely being going with timber floors in living areas and hall ways after hand over and carpet in the bedrooms. All very exciting to see it all coming together! Re: Building The Voltaire With Clarendon Homes 9Jun 28, 2010 3:02 pm Had out tile & electrical appointments on Friday, all very exciting but also a very expensive day! We have choosen for the wet areas a matt finished creamy marble large square wall tile for one feature wall which has horizintal lines that are grouted in, and all other wall are done i a matching tile without the horizontal grout lines. The floor tiles are a latte colour and matt finish square. We chose a feature tile for the main bathroom that is a pattern of small square glass and ceramic tiles in beiges and browns, and for the ensuite chose a feature of small stones that are grouted between With the electrical we do want down lights but they are so expensive to have the builder put them in, so we opted for having cheap batons installed where each down light will go, and then after hand over my brother who is an electritian is going to swap the fittings to down light ones. I thought this was a clever idea as the cheap baton lights are $48 each to put in where as a down light is $123 per light and the fittings are very simple to change afterwards, and saves a huge amount of money! We also added some nice outside wall lights as we are on a rural property and need the outside light, a few extra tv points etc and thats about it. Still waiting on the final signature from council which i have been promised will be any day now, but stillwaiting so far.
