Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 05, 2010 9:42 pm Hi everyone, this is my first post! (hope i've posted in the right area) I'm building a custom designed home (2 storey attic style, approx 26 square) in the northern suburbs of Melbourne (Preston). Budget is quite tight so I've started seeking out builders to get quotes for building up to lock up stage and then slowly complete the rest of the house on my own time using a lot of people I know in the trade. I'm not sure how the financing works for this sort of plan so if anyone's gone along the same process then it would be great to hear from you. Also, any referrals for builders in the Northern Suburbs (i'm in Preston) would be great. Currently i'm in the process of getting a quote from Dekoma Homes who are affiliated with the National Builders Group. Seeking a 2nd and 3rd quote as soon as possible so any referrals would be great to help get the ball rolling. Thanks guys Re: Questions about building to lock up stage 2Apr 06, 2010 4:47 am Hi Alex, I'm also in your area, but currently building in the outer west. We are building with Zuccala Homes. We were thrilled with our plan, able to make adjustments - free of charge, they even helped us with a few problems we were having with our convener and developer. They are located in South Morang, so not too far from our area. We are only at frame stage, and have had a few hiccups so far, but I'm sure that's common with every builder, you take the good with the bad i suppose. They have a pretty good range of options when it comes to bricks, tiles and all the little things that make your house a home, and their standards inclusions are really good. A bit slack with communication, but i hear most builders are. Good luck deciding who you chose to build with, i only wish i had of joined this forum before we took the plunge Dear J.K. Rowling, Your books are entirely unrealistic. I mean, a ginger kid with two friends? Sincerely, Anonymous Re: Questions about building to lock up stage 3Apr 06, 2010 5:07 pm Thanks for that Little Misses, appreciate the tips. I'll keep scouting around for the builder that 'feels' right for my home and take it from there. Good luck with your build, hope it all goes smoothly! 1 4695 Not unless you have managed to put it as a special condition into the contract somehow. 1 6155 You should check your detail drawings, it may show downpipe within brick pier. 14 14099 |
