Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Sep 10, 2007 9:56 pm We'd like to have porcelain floor tiles for our 1st house.
We were given an initial quote of $150/sqm, but have yet to confirm the final cost, as we haven't done our tile selection yet. When we were with another builder, we were quoted $82/sqm for the same porcelain floor tile. Now we're thinking of doing our own floor tiling in order to save. The cost of the tiles were around $45/sqm. Any ideas how much it would cost us if have it done by a professional tiler? Has anyone done this and can you give us an idea how you went through with it (any hassle? how much? is it worth it?). We're also building in Point Cook. In case you know a very good tiler, can you please let us know? Thanks! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: Floor tiles - by builder or tiler? 2Sep 11, 2007 8:54 am Hi there,
We are going to do the tiling after habdover. Our builder quoted $8100 to tile 100sqm. I got a few quotes from tilers, the quotes ranged between $33 and $35 sqm. We can buy tiles and have them laid for about $6800. We went to Beaumont Tiled, and they gave us a list of recommended tiles. We are going to do the same with carpet also, cheaper this way... Hope this helps, Donna Re: Floor tiles - by builder or tiler? 3Sep 11, 2007 9:46 pm Hi Donna,
Thanks for the info. Are the costs that you mentioned for porcelain tiles? When we went to Beaumont, they told us that laying porcelain tiles would cost more than ceramic tiles. Also, what size of tiles are you going to use? Ours is 450x450. We read a book for laying tiles and it says there that the proper way of doing it is to put the tiles first and then the skirtings. One of our friends asked the tiler to remove the skirting 1st, lay the tiles and put back the skirting. We also like to do it but worried that it might damage the skirtings and the wall. How about you? For those who did their own tiles, can you share your experiences on this? Regardless of wall hung toilet or floor pan toilet your feet will be right on drain, seems to me the waste should not be in that location given the design. Also are you… 6 4617 Yep, very good point. I’ll do more research and see what figures I get.
