Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 31, 2010 4:34 pm Hi everyone, my partner and I have decided to paint the interior of our newly constructed home over the course of 2 weeks from Easter (we're young and naive ). We have a white plaster set over a float, not plaster boards, and we were curious to know if a sealer-binder (we're considering Dulux Sealer Binder, an oil based prep coat) can be applied straight to plaster or if surface preparation needs to be done first (wiping down with a damp rag, dusting, sanding etc.) Should we find any chips, can a normal spak filler be applied straight to plaster and sanded or do they need surface preparation too? Thank you! Re: Sealing fresh plaster for painting 2Mar 31, 2010 4:36 pm I'm interested to hear the answers to your questions as well V!! Although i won't be putting it into practice for between 3 to 6 months LOL viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Sealing fresh plaster for painting 3Mar 31, 2010 5:09 pm We had our PCI this morning and our SS told us we would need to patch the walls with some kind of filler to the dents, holes, scratches... and then sand it a bit. Then it should be ready for oil based sealer. I would also like to know the ans for this. We are also thinking of doing it ourself. Re: Sealing fresh plaster for painting 5Mar 31, 2010 5:34 pm I've found this PDF from Dulux dealing specifically with set plaster surface preparation: http://www.duspec.com.au/duspec/file/PFP021.pdf and their oil-based sealer binder: http://www.duspec.com.au/duspec/file/AUDD0074.pdf Re: Sealing fresh plaster for painting 6Mar 31, 2010 8:18 pm yup that's the one vunderful. make sure you keep the room aired when painting as the fumes are VERY potent!
