Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Is it worth asking for a discount 25Apr 01, 2010 9:53 am pravvy Yeah i was in the predicament as well..... I didn't want to pay a couple of grand before i even knew how much the house was going to cost..... I wanted to go with a smaller builder so I took a different approach. I found a draftsman that drew up the plans (just the basic plans not the engineering ones) for less than that price and am planning to play two or more builders that we are interested in biding it out.......hopefully the plan works...but i thought I could cover the cost of drawings this way especially when ppl can leave the room and come back and offer a $5000 discount! I would ask before paying the 3300 but be prepared to fight the answer we will only know once you have got the drawings...... Not a bad strategy but I dont think we can get plans drawn externally - everything is done by the builder. Our plan of attack is to get as much of the tender at a fixed price as possible, before asking for a discount and paying the $3300.
