Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 28, 2010 10:33 pm So we have signed contracts however I lay awake thinking about the things I don't like and wish to change.. Our block is 34 length by 20 wide our house is only 21 sq.. At the moment which we have signed mind you.. The house is I think 3 point something from the left hand side of boundary and i think 2 metres right hand side this is the side we plan to put a spa on.. I don't like the idea of 3 metres down one side if the house which we would hardly use I'm thinking of having the house moved over and our crossover moved.. Would this be expensive to do ?? Or my other idea is to extend the garage possibly to the boundary or a further 1.5 metres as we don't want a shed we will just make use of the garage for storage.. What do you think? Would either option prove to be very expensive?? And in the long run not really add to the worth of our house?? Helpers.. Opinons.. Comments welcome!! Laney Our Build Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=30685 Re: Cost of extending garage 2Mar 29, 2010 12:01 pm oh since you have already signed the contract, then you are at the mercy of your builder when you want to make changes to your plan. You will need to pay an exorbitant admin fee (typically $1000) to raise a post contract variation. You could perhaps ask for a 3rd garage, ie 1 double garage, plus 1 single garage given your frontage is 20m. I have seen triple garages at my estate when the lot width can accomodate that. I extended my garage by half a metre more, 6000 (length) by 6100 and I think (can't rem exactly and my contract is at home) I paid close to a grand for this half a metre extension. Re: Cost of extending garage 3Mar 29, 2010 12:34 pm position of crossover is determined by developer of land. I am sure you can sit your house anywhere you like, as long as you are within the developer and council's restrictions. If you must leave 3m side setback, your house siting will not be approved by council if it does not meet this requirement.
