Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 08, 2007 10:05 am After what seems like years (which has been 1 year since finding the land) we are off! We were told that we had a site start date of yesterday by the customer service lady, but to my surprise on Wednesday when I drove past (to get some final "before" photos) we had a water tap and meter at the front of our block. Then just out of curiosity I drove past Thursday and our scrape had been done ready for the slab. We thought we might get the beginnings of our slab yesterday but there was nothing done yesterday - the day it was all supposed to start!
On a not so happy note we still have no temporary fencing (which we have been told will be happening early next week). I don't really mind except that people are STILL driving across our block - even after the scrape! When we were there Thursday evening (about dusk) there were 2 cars that tried to drive through our block - with us standing on it. They both went around (while we were giving them evil looks) and drove through the next block but you can plainly see the car tracks that have already driven through where the dirt has been moved. We just hope that they don't drive through the garage bit which is dug out a lot deeper than the rest of the floor and get stuck or more importantly for us - wreck the scrape. We had to laugh though cos one of the mentioned cars that came through one way, not long after came back to cut through again (we were still standing on it working out where rooms go, etc) and they thought they'd be smart and came quite close to our block on the left side, and drove through some tallish weeds on the next block and cut trough the back corner of our block - where unbeknowns to them the sewage pipe/easement drain thing has sunk as the ground has settled after development and their wheel went straight into it and made a rather lound crunch noise when the underneath of their car hit the ground. Hopefully that will deter them from trying to be smart again. We have sent off a letter to Vic Roads to see if they can put some sort of barrier (bollards, etc) at the end of the service road - apparently a "No Through Road", to stop traffic from going through, or at the rear of our block. I'll try and update our blog soon with some pics. Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Finally we have something to see! 2Sep 08, 2007 10:16 am Ahhhhh, they filled you with false hope on the first few days!!!!
“There…. that should keep em happy for a while” Don’t worry, pretty soon the driving on your land will stop, people can be such ******* can’t they! The more you look upset by it the more they will do it. Got any rolled barbwire hanging around anywhere????? (did I say that?) Looking forward to seeing progress on you build, with no trashed cars in the background of the photos! 5/9 - water connected 6/9 - site scrape 7-9 - site start date 10/9 - temporary fence up 11/9 - power connected 12/9 - concrete piers 13/9 - pipes laid At this rate we may have a slab Monday or Tuesday! How exciting is that! I was seeing if I could find a .jpg address but I couldn't find one! Ray. I just went to http://www.flickr.com/photos/13404377@N07/1370987226/ which was the first link you put between the img tags, found the picture, right-clicked it, went to properties and copied the entire properties of the picture which is http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1203/1370987226_ad3b086373.jpg then placed that between in img tags. Re: Finally we have something to see! 11Sep 16, 2007 10:29 pm What are those white coloured stuffs in the photo? Are they the peg-outs, pipes or something else? Is that big machine going to damage them?? It happened to my sewage pipe (damaged by truck), so better be careful! Re: Finally we have something to see! 12Sep 19, 2007 5:46 pm Yep, they're pipes. Only 2 of them are sewerage (they had bowl sort of caps on them). The rest I assume will be storm water/grey water pipes as they seem to be where there will be drains (basins, baths, showers, etc).
As I said, they did a fantastic job to manouvre the machine around the pipes to back fill and level all the dirt. P.S. We have a slab!!! Second Time 'Round Re: Finally we have something to see! 13Nov 22, 2007 6:35 pm To update this - we got a message on the home phone today from Melbourne Water who are going to fence off the road where the cars are driving through.
I sent off a letter to Vic Roads after the council lady telling me that they would own the land behind us, and they contacted us a while ago to say that the letter was received and they would look into it. It appears that Melbourne Water actually own the land, and they are going to fence it off so that the cars can't cause issues. We have temp fencing and no one has hit it yet, but recently with the hot weather it has been creating a lot of dust - in fact after out roof tiles went on I noticed they were sort of orange/dusty, and then a car drove past the back of our block and I realised why! Now that we have had rain, our court is covered in mud that they have trapsed from cutting through. We have been told that we should see the fence go up before Chrissy, or if not then shortly after. Now fingers crossed what they put up looks ok... I'd love to see their (the drivers') faces when they come across the fence! Hehehehe. Ray. We now have a fence that prevents through traffic. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We also have the RIGHT sidelights and the matching front door - what do you think? Worth the wait? I wish we had nice sunny days! This rain is killing us. Re: Finally we have something to see! 18Jan 16, 2008 8:48 am It's looking really nice Ray, keep up the pics!!! Re: Finally we have something to see! 19Jan 17, 2008 7:25 pm We paid a visit last night and found that the heating unit (with ducting) had been installed, as had the evaporative unit and ducts.
On my visit today (as well as a phone call from the SSuper) the electricals were done today (powerpoints, etc) and - shock horror - I was LOCKED OUT! I guess that means we are at lockup? We have our first official visit tomorrow morning to go through with the supervisor (we decided that it wasn't necessary before this as we had access to all areas), and plan to do an official visit every second week if possible, with a phone call the week in between. At least they are getting a wriggle on! Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Finally we have something to see! 20Jan 17, 2008 7:52 pm Ray, i'm sure you'll be visiting and peeking into the windows on the weeks you don't have access anyway won't you???
Congrat's on getting to lock up!!!! Very exciting....
