Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 28, 2010 2:43 pm Hey all, I've almost finished a 6 week journey of me running around in circles with my builder, town planning, yarra valley water, and other authorities in getting permits for the builder. It's almost over now, but as from the beginning i've always felt that it shouldn't be my job doing the run around for this stuff. Isn't that what i'm paying the builders for?! It took me abut 6 weeks to figure out what the builder wanted, then try and explain that to the appropriate authorities and then to actually find the paperwork, i then had to figure out how to fill it out (as i'm not a builder i have no idea what they required) and after it all, it seems logical that if the builders just did it, perhaps it would not have taken so long. I've now got to wait another 4-6 weeks for these applications to now be processed, putting my job around 2 months behind schedule. I just wanted to get a few opinions from other people regarding planning permits, water permits, building permits, etc. etc. is this the job of the owner or the builder to obtain, complete and send off? Re: Permits - Should it be me or the builder filling these o 2Mar 28, 2010 3:04 pm Our contract, which was a modified Victorian HIA contract, had a space within it that left room for whom was responsible for the planning permits and the building permits. We were responsible for planning and the builders were responsible for building. The builders failed to let us know which parts were required by us and when, we just had to act stupid and keep asking (remember there are no stupid questions). We had to sort our dispensation which falls under planning, however our builder did sort out the building permit. It may pay to check your contract, ours also included the amount of time allowed for. The only ones I had to do were the demo one (which the demo guy filled in for me anyway) and the driveway levels. Judie DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair But if it is a ground level open pit, then it is not a charged system. No surprises there. The pipes have obviously been altered and there would be a reason for this.… 3 25016 That was always going to be a challenge and a test of patience. Full marks to your mate. Did you discuss the wet area near the trampoline? 16 14093 Are you saying that these consultants are involved at key-points of the building, and perform site inspects at the stages, or only after building is completed to point… 4 8973 |
