Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 27, 2010 7:14 pm Hello homeone members, i have been following the forum for a few month since deciding to build my first home, everyone seems very helpful, hence the reason for my question. i have a block in SE QLD on Hope Island, i am currently finalising my plans and i am also in the quoting game (which is always fun). i always knew i would have to lift the living areas (Garage is fine) of the new home up off the ground, but getting the correct infomation is proving hard, i have spent a long time with council etc but they say just put the plans in a in time you will get your height! but this isnt helping me as i need to know the heights for the stump length etc, i am going to do a timber floored home (maybe metal floor), everyone seems to say just allow a meter, a meter is perfect? is there someone or a site or anyone that can point me in a direction to how high the floor has to be as a minimum in the particular area where my home will be at hope island? its a solid block no fill soil test is ok? its just the height??? if i was going to do a slab (which would be great and my first preference) it would mean alot of fill in my brick footings then added footing in the filled area etc? this would be my prefered floor but the prices from some builders have given me for this is sooooo expensive which has lead me to stumps etc? i appreciate anyones help and thanks you in advance. all the very best Travdav Re: Floor height (Qld Hope Island) 3Apr 12, 2010 5:50 pm I am not sure of the minimun hieght but I do remember that the pest controller gave me some advice when I told him I was building on stumps, which was make it aleast hiegh enough so you can crawl under so you can check for termite activity.
