Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 25, 2010 8:34 pm Hi just wondering if anyone can offer some advice, our builders have started putting on our roof tiles and we noticed there is no sarking. After contacting our administrator we were told it is an upgrade which we havn't requested or paid for. We didn't know it's not standard, therefore didn't request it, call it naive but I don't know how to build a roof so I don't know what to ask for and it was never discussed with us. Is this going to be a HUGE problem if we don't have sarking? Re: Sarking not Standard 5Mar 25, 2010 11:22 pm We noticed that when our roof tiles were going on that our house didn't have sarking. We questioned the tiler who was there at the time and he said that the majority of houses in non coastal areas don't have sarking... so we figured okay and let it go. We checked out the new houses around us and none of the ones with tile roofs have sarking... so we were content with not having sarking since it seemed to be the norm. After our house had progressed even further... we discover that sarking WAS included in our inclusions and that we WERE meant to have sarking. As the house was too far along we just accepted the cash equivelant refund. Moral of the story... read your inclusions more closely and know exactly what you are meant to be getting Building Standards; Getting It Right!
