Other people I know have built with this builder and had no issues with them at all. I think a lot of it is just luck. If you are looking for a design that is a set plan and you dont wanna change anything, the budget builders are fine to go with, hikinbotham/statesman etc. If you need a custom design though these builder will not be as flexible as some. We chose Rossdale as our builder after this they told us 12-14 month to build our house, they said they spend a lot of time on the pre construction phase, which is frustrating, so far they have been really good, a couple of little hiccups but nothing major, but the time is the big thing with them. I really think it is just the luck of the draw sometimes. It all depends on LUCK~~~ 3rd property but 1st home March 19,2010 signed contract Re: Building our first home! 5Mar 21, 2010 8:39 pm We are building our second home which is our retirement home. Time seems to be a big issue with builders in Adelaide. We've been told 12-14 months and that seems to be about it. We're presently considering changing builders because of a huge discrepancy between their first 'price guide' and the fixed price quote. This was mainly do to a looseness in our consultant's quote which ended up with many mistakes leading to big $$. So my one suggestion to you is to nail down the costs as firmly as possible before you hand over your deposit. This is especially true if you're on a tight budget. Honesty and transparency is important to us so we will bail if we think we need to and go back to the drawing board. Good luck to you both and we hope to hear more about your experiences. We built with them several years ago, I wouldn't walk in one of their display homes now, they were terrible. They have great architects, not anything else though. I feel like ringing the advertising standards board every time I hear their ad. Re: Building our first home! 8Mar 31, 2010 5:00 pm Hi Glennmmc, Interestingly enough we almost jumped ship and went with Dechellis. Dollar for dollar we'd be getting probably a better built house with less hassle. We weighed it up and it was a really hard decision. In the end we liked the Rossdale plan better so have gone back to redo the fixed price contract which should show up after easter. We got rid of a number of items we were being 'overcharged' for to get it into the right range. We also weren't in a position to easily fork out another deposit. It was funny, our Rossdale consultant made a comment that he couldn't guarantee that the new contract wouldn't have gone up because of how long it took to make a decision. What he doesn't realize, if they tried to squeze another 1 underserved cent out of us I'd walk. So fingers are crossed that the price will be right this time. As for builders recommendations, have a look at the threads of all the people who are building with Dechellis and they all seem to be happy Thanks for asking. Handover February 2011 Happy with our home A quick update, we didn't have site start before Easter.
