Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 20, 2010 9:02 pm We have been dealing with two builders regarding the building of our new home, we have not yet decided which one we are going with as I *think* price may be the deciding factor. We are wanting to add to the garage to make it a 3 car instead of 2. One of the quotes was $8k (or thereabouts) and the other was $2k stating that the extra space had the doors, concrete floor etc so that is not where the discrepancy ******. Anybody have any idea why the difference would be so big? Re: Quote for garages, crazy difference in prices 2Mar 20, 2010 11:59 pm Builders can be a bit like trades people at times in you can get two completely different prices for the same/similar thing. Only thing i can suggest is getting the plans side by side and see if there's any variances in the drawings. Have you asked each builder to justify the price? Re: Quote for garages, crazy difference in prices 3Mar 21, 2010 11:50 am Need to ensure that the extra car sapce isn't changing the roof shape either, as this is where extra costs add up quickly. We wanted to add 1m in extra length to one room, in doing so was going to cost $3500 as the roof layout had to change making more trusses and point things or something.... Perhaps thats another issue as well? Interesting... Does one come with a rear-access roller door? As Elemist asked, ask them to justify the price. Show the cheaper quote to the more expensive builder and query him about it, and vice versa. I had 28m2 of engineered pavers laid six months back and it was difficult to find someone not taking the pi$$. Internet suggested it should be $85-100/m2 to lay them.… 3 12388 Tradie may sit at home but will need to get house plastered as well or will you sit it out? 6 9963 hey there! 😊 so, it’s kinda common for standard drawer depths to be around 500mm since most cabinets use this size to fit the usual runners… 3 20906 |
