Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Boral Brick Issue-need help 2Mar 20, 2010 6:19 pm Hi, I can't help with any pictures but be careful re the Leura as their latest batch has been quite dark - looks more like the Blackheath, friends of ours around the corner were supposed to be using the Leura but they ended up choosing a completely different brick as the Leura was nothing like it was previously. Edit: I should add that Boral did deliver the bricks and they looked like the Blackheath bricks despite being labelled as Leura. Boral acknowledged that the latest batches are much darker and allowed them to change bricks. We have a half bricked house due to issues with colour. Looks like we have to knock down the bricks and start again with another brick. The Leura is not what the display shows its much darker and comes with purple/green bricks. I accepted this when they did our bottom half as they still had a lot of red brick and were blended quite well by a good brickie. But what I cant accept is the difference in colour when they started on the top floor of our house. The brickie actually called a holt to it, lucky for us.The major issue was not all bricks were delivered in one go and the second deliver didnt have any of the reddish bricks. All bricks have come from Batch 52 and Boral cannot guarantee that they can get any more bricks to match,so have advised us to reselect . Infact due to our issues they are finally taking the display wall down. I have seen two more house finished out of batch 52 and they are dark purple so please think twice. One of my other choices was Jarrah but due to the Storms our only other choice will be St George a QLD brick, which looks similar in the brochures to Jarrah but I am waiting on samples to get delivered. http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/3487/tidewall.jpg http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/4726/sidehouse.jpg http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/4623/greenbricks.jpg http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/3216/backofhouse.jpg http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/4121/backleft.jpg http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/3819/displaywall.jpg Re: Boral Brick Issue-need help 4Mar 20, 2010 8:08 pm Thanks for your reply and valuable advise. My first selection was Jarah and just advised by the builder that due to storm they cant provide jarah any more. Now my builder has given me 3 days to select a new brick and I dint find anything similar to Jarah. Leura at Boral Display (Thomastown, VIC) is reddish. I'm not sure whether they will deliver from the same batch as Lina or not. If that happen I am dead. I already had enough trouble with my builder. Dont want any more trouble. Re: Boral Brick Issue-need help 6Mar 20, 2010 9:46 pm Unfortunately one of the options we asked about was trying to get Leura bricks from a different batch, but we have been told it will be a while and more than likely they will have the same colour issue. Our contract /basix states we have to have medium colour with exposure so we were really limited in choice. If these St George bricks dont meet my expectations than we will being going to Austral. Our SS said we couldnt but we pushed it with his manager. Check the QLD options on the Boral Website, if Boral offer that to us you should be offered the same deal. Dont be rushed into anything without being sent sample packs. Its your money and your house at the end of the day. We are building south of Sydney by the way. Re: Boral Brick Issue-need help 7Mar 21, 2010 8:57 pm I'm glad you posted this. Our house is with the council for DA. We are also building south of Sydney and have very limited brick choices due to cost and the developers restrictions. On top of that we need exposure grade. We chose Leura after viewing the sample wall at Boral Castle Hill. It was red....no blue and purple. Funnily enough we had some new houses going up where we currently live and we were keeping an eye on them for ideas, building times etc etc. My husband was looking at one home that the brick work had just been started on and instinctively knew it was Leura despite the huge colour variation. We went to another Boral centre closer to where we will be building and confirmed that the latest batch was very different. We even went to Boral's Bringelly quarry to view batch 52 and whilst not entirely happy we didn't really have a choice unless we wanted to fork out $5000 more (on top of the $3000 upgrade we are already paying for) for a different brick. Your post has me really worried as we are also building a 2 storey home. Is there any reason why your bricks were delivered in two batches? Or is this the norm? Re: Boral Brick Issue-need help 8Mar 21, 2010 9:28 pm I think getting bricks in two batches is normally due to space on your site, but I cant be sure as we had the space so our think ours was just lack of foresight. If you do go with the Leura make sure you can get them all at once or you will end up exactly like us. Make sure you check them when they are delivered too. Also dont let a boral rep try and sell you on the Megalong either. It a non advertised product which is the red of the Leura in colour. We almost drove an hour and half to see a house built with it after being told mutilple times it was exposure grade by staff. They even sent down samples knowing we could only get exposure. Dont ask me why these people dont check these things first. Luckily we knew by experience not to believe anything and I asked the manager to confirm in writing. Well after a few phone calls it was confirmed it is not exposure grade. What a waste of time it has been. I hope yours works out. Re: Boral Brick Issue-need help 10Jul 10, 2010 12:11 pm Lina, How did you go with your bricks? We put an order in for batch 52 and unfortunately our order was not honoured and we ended up with batch 8 which is horrible. Most of the bricks are dark green like Blackheath with red and red & purple bricks mixed in. We are really disappointed and am trying to get Boral to change them. You must be new to the internet. You're also the only person anyone here has ever heard of washing their garage wall. I hate to break it to you, there are insects and… 6 4848 thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16284 |
