Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Rebecca1983 - We had a suprise today! 21May 23, 2010 11:21 pm Hey mummamichelle, I initially had the same concern about the dark garage door, but in the estate we are building in there is a house with the exact same colour scheme and I think it looks fantastic. i can see why some people would think it is too dark, but we are using a lot of wood in our house (big double wood front doors, wood screen in front of the bedroom windows which look into the front yard and in the letter box) and I think that will work well with the light and dark contrasts. Our sil test results were coming in on Tuesday or Wednesday. Our sales rep said that if there was a problem (ie. the soil test showed that needed something more than our contracted H slab) he would call us NO PHONE CALL HAS COME THROUGH....So EXCITED!!!! Now we go into council...time to start waiting Painting finished, time to tile! HANDOVER - THURSDAY 3RD MARCH 2011 Re: Rebecca1983 - Time to wait 23May 29, 2010 8:32 am Congratulations Rebecca . It's interesting that your plans have gone to Council - our plans were approved by a private certifier. Good luck and here's hoping that you sail through Council with no dramas and that it happens quickly. We are doing a few things outside the house after handover that require "council approval" and when we rang the council about it we were told that the approval is done by a private certifier.....no idea at all. I just hope that it is quick. Painting finished, time to tile! HANDOVER - THURSDAY 3RD MARCH 2011 Re: Rebecca1983 - Time to wait 25Jun 25, 2010 10:09 am Hubby just spoke to out builder (plans are nearing the end of their journey through council) and asked the question that everyone both dreads and delights in... If we come out of council in the timeline expected, when do you think our build might be done? Through the whole process the builder has been pretty confident that we would be in for Christmas but with issues with the bank, land valuation problems and some unexpected changes to the plan, it has thrown the timeline out. Now we are looking at late January 2011 I am trying to look on the bright side. More time living with the parents = more money saved for all those extra things we want to do and it also means that I will be able to take some time off when we move in (which I could not have been able to do just before Christmas)....but I am still feel pretty devestated. Try to keep looking at the positives like less stress come handover time when you've saved a little more money. Once your in your home you will forget about all this waiting, well that's what I tell myself anyways MM Building Doulton Q3 with Plantation Homes My Building Blog http://thewebbs-page.blogspot.com/ Building Thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32743 Re: Rebecca1983 - Devastated... 27Jun 25, 2010 10:48 am Thanks mummamichelle. I know in the grand scheme of things it is not much and it is not a big deal. It is just that we have already been on the marry-go-round of selling houses, buying land, picking designs for more than six months and we just want to see something happening. I know that things will only get slower once we start building. I think the stage where we are now where we have a vacant piece of land and waiting for council just makes it feel like nothing is happening and we will never have our house built. Watching the grass grow on your block of land rather than a house can be very deflating. Why don't you write a list of those "little extra" things that you can buy with the additional money you get to save. That might put the back on your face. It has been a pretty hard going couple of months with our house. It is so exciting to see that so many of the builds that I was following have now finished. I cannot believe that in a few short months that will be us! After spending approx. 4months in council (including a a dispute with our certification company over a refused relaxation) we finally started building in mid September after my husband fronted up at the certification company and demanded to be given our plans (which had been approved ages before). Since then things have moved pretty quickly slab was down within 2 weeks of coming out of council and things have continued to move quickly, the frame, roof and bricks when on, doors and windows soon after, air-conditioning roughed in Monday of this week, electrical work done Thursday and walls started yesterday. It has not been without issues. Our ensuite window incorrectly framed so it was in the middle of the shower, plumber incorrectly positioning the showerhead towards the door, for the most part little things that have been quickly resolved by our builder who has been fantastic. Everything else is really starting to come together. We bought our roller blinds recently and today we made the final payment, and picked up our lights and after getting many quotes we have have purchased a stratco patio which my dear hubby and some of his handy mates will install.
