Browse Forums Building A New House Wizards castle - PD Francis 29 – what a disappointing day 662Jan 28, 2011 10:26 am Hi everyone, have not been on here much over the past few weeks, between dealing with disasters at work and having to hand in 2 major assignments for uni, I have not had any time to do anything. I promised an update with photos a few weeks ago, I will get around to doing that later today hopefully, but in the mean time, just wanted to have a little rant, so here is your pre-warning that I am about to go off…. What a f#@%ing day we had yesterday, Nic rings me just after lunch to tell me the following: 1. Brickies working next door have splashed mortar all over our house (including windows). She went out and blasted them, they then decided to get a chisel and chip it off and then said they will be back today with some acid to clean it 2. Our sectional roller door was being replaced (the first one was faulty and was peeling) and the installer was smoking in the garage 3. We are half way through having a fence between our house and the neighbors house put up (the same house that covered our house with mortar) and the fencers knocked on our door to ask where our payment is so they can finish the fence Here is the problem with the first point – they already need to clean our bricks from when their slab was laid because there is concrete splashed down one whole side of the house, I rang the builder before Christmas (starting with Sim and ending with ds) and told them they need to clean our house. We agreed that they will clean it after bricking is complete, I stressed to them that they need to be VERY careful because if they use too much acid they will discolor the mortar (this was one problem we had before our bricks were ripped down and re-done) and I didn’t want it to happen again. So I rang the builder again yesterday and told them not to touch our bricks and that I want the cleaning to be done at the end of the bricking and that if they discolor the mortar they WILL be replace the bricks. The woman I have been dealing with rang the site supervisor and he assured us he will keep an eye on it and fix any issues. On to point 2, so our roller door was replaced, finally, but the morons changing the door lit up in our garage, Nic said that you could smell the smoke all through the house, I suffer from asthma, but besides that, I HATE the smell of cigarette smoke. So I rang the company and told them to ring these pricks and tell them that I don’t appreciate them smoking in our garage. Then when I got home, the first thing I noticed were 2 scratches (looks like it was scratched in transit), both scratches are down to the white plastic so they stand out like anything, I then open the garage to find that the installers had left all their rubbish plus left screws ****** in the garage (lucky I didn’t drive straight in). So this morning I rang the manufacturers and told them that the second door is damaged and now needs to be replaced again, they are going to send someone out to touch it up next Wednesday. I asked if I will be able to see the touch up, “no they are confident that you won’t see it”, well, I am confident that they will be replacing it if I can even see it slightly, I paid a fortune for this door, and I expect nothing less than a NEW in perfect condition door. Now to point 3, the fence. This company just turned up one day and started constructing the fence, gave no notice (so I have not signed a Notice to Fence form) and we have not even received a quote. I told Nic to tell this guy that I won’t be paying anything until the fence is finished and I am happy with the job. I have not even paid a deposit (which is what they were after I think), but I am not even paying that, don’t come knocking on my door to ask for money when you haven’t done your job properly (or legally I might add). All this in one day, I am sure you can appreciate my frustration and anger. Mind you there is still a long list of things PD need to fix and am still waiting to find out when it will all get done. On a positive note, we had our splash back replace last week (the first one had streaks through the glass on the painted side), this one is much better. I plan to post an update very shortly with some photos, those who asked me to PM them some photos of us settled in, I will do so shortly also. I am the same with the smoking. It is a disgusting habit. Our painter smoked IN the house throughout the job, even after handover the stench was still noticable. To a non smoker like me, it is such an offensive smell. I'm happy to say none or my family nor friends smoke. Grrr to the roller door. How hard is it to get a brand new door? Fingers crossed they replace it and you get what you paid for. Fences sound a bit rude. I'd be asking for the written quote first to know what you're up for! I'd love to see some moved in pics Re: Wizards castle - PD Francis 29 – what a disappointing da 664Jan 28, 2011 10:36 am Done deal Erin, I should add that we know what we are up for, the builder if next door is the one who organised the fencers and have given us a quote in an email, it's not official, but at least I have it in writing Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Wizards castle - PD Francis 29 – what a disappointing da 665Jan 28, 2011 11:06 am Damb what a shame about the smoking, that would get at me also, but gosh clean up your mess and get a new garage door is not to hard, hopefully your bricks will be okay, did they say how long till they do it, those fencers sound like a fabulous bunch! LOL i would not be giving them anything either till it was completly done, even then i think you will have 10-14 days or something to pay. As for the fencers, they finally gave us an invoice, tried to contact them as they requested to talk to me but I got voice mail. Left a message for him to contact me but has not done so yet, we’ll see how it pans out Belial Sounds like a pretty rough day all round wizard, good luck with neighbouring builder and the garage door installers - remember the keyword is 'acceptable quality' under the new Australian consumer guarantee for goods (replaced the Trade Practices Act) http://www.accc.gov.au/content/index.phtml/itemId/961818 As for the fencing issue the bible is the fencing act http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/vic/consol_act/fa196867/ and another good resource is http://www.fencingonline.com.au/disputes/victoria.htm but basically if you weren't issued with a notice to fence (to either agree to or contest) then whether you are responsible for a contribution at all is called into question, have a read of the links to find out what applies to your situation. Hope it all works out. Thanks Belial, I have a copy of the fence act, I don’t mind paying our share (regardless of whether they have followed legal procedures), I just have an issue with having them knock on our door and ask why we have not paid. As for the roller door, if after Wednesday I can still see these marks or see the patches, I will be demanding a new door, and then I will escalate it if they don’t cooperate. I DIDN’T PAY ALL THAT MONEY FOR A DAMAGED ROLLER DOOR!!!! kiwi ooow, a free fence. now that would make your day ay . good luck with your assignments too, hope you get a fabulous mark, you deserve it and hope all the other issues get sorted to a VERY high standard. Thanks kiwi, assignments are done for another semester, should get my results in the next week or two, fingers crossed. Just have exams to worry about now. I too hope all the other issues get sorted to a VERY high standard Deemaree Geez Louise! Hope it all starts to improve Wiz! Me too Dee, although Nic rang me earlier to say that our safety switch keeps tripping, our fridge was out for a few hours apparently. We don’t know what is causing it, we have not changed anything on that circuit since we moved in, all I can think of is that one of the appliances on that circuit has suddenly started playing up. Either that or the brick layers next door are flicking it to be smart asses, Nic did yell at them last week when she saw the mortar splashed on our bricks kek ::wornout:: I'm sure PD will fix whatever outstanding issues you have, wizard.... but it may take a while. Just wanted to show everyone what the roller door company calls a replacement for our original roller door. For those who don’t know the story, our first panel lift door had 3 or 4 patches where the fake wood colour was peeling and the white plastic was visible, so last week they replaced the door with a brand new one (all 4 panels were replaced). Here is what our roller door looks like now http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy252/w-i-z-a-r-d/100_6875.jpg So our brand new roller door still has 2 big marks in it http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy252/w-i-z-a-r-d/100_6876.jpg http://i797.photobucket.com/albums/yy252/w-i-z-a-r-d/100_6877.jpg They were supposed to send someone out to ‘patch’ it on Wednesday, he never showed. I rang them yesterday (Thursday) to see why it was not done, said they would send someone out yesterday. When I got home from work, still nothing. I rang them again today and they said they will find out what happened and get it done. I am so over dealing with this company. We have been in the house for almost 3 months, had 2 roller doors and they still can’t get it right. If the patch is not done perfectly, and I mean no evidence that it was patched, they will be replacing it again. What a joke. Ok, I think I feel a little better now Current status: Busy making the house our home Built PD Francis 29 on our 576m2 block at Reflections in Tarneit Reflections Estate Thread Our Build Thread Re: Wizards castle - PD Francis 29 – Still disappointed 674Feb 04, 2011 8:50 am It shouldn't be that difficult to get it right. And whatever happened to customer service? If they say they are coming out to do something, they should bloody come. I hope you can get this resolved soon. contract signed: Nov 09 Released to Construction: 23 Jul 10 Slab poured: 9 Aug 10 Frame completed: 30 Aug 10 Windows & Gutters: 7 Sep 10 Bricks: 15 - 23 Sep 10 Roof: 24 Sep 10 Gyprock: 20 Oct 10 Lockup: 25 Oct 10 Kitchen: 27 Oct 10 Tiling: 6 - 9 Nov 10 Painting: 17 Nov 10 Carpet: 30 Nov 10 PCI: 15 Dec 10 Handover: 17 Dec 10 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=35943 Re: Wizards castle - PD Francis 29 – Still disappointed 675Feb 04, 2011 8:56 am Thanks carlswil, so do I. The problem is they contract all the fitting and repair work out, none of it is done by the company itself. This company did say to me that even they are sick of dealing with the contractors because they are so unreliable. At the end of the day, I don’t care about any of that, I paid for a new door, so that is what I want. I do get the feeling that this will end up going to the ACCC though.
