Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Issues with the Mortar color for our new home 2Mar 21, 2010 4:20 pm In my exeriences mortar shade can vary, as can the uniformity. You can get the mortar tested for correct mix, but there is not much they can do about the colour difference. My dad said not to get a colour as it will vary. He was right, but I rarely look at the bricks anymore. Re: Issues with the Mortar color for our new home 3Mar 22, 2010 9:07 am We had an issue with mortar during our build. We paid extra (god only knows why) for a lighter colored mortar but they only used that color for 1/2 the build so from a distance there was an very obvious horizontal line where the coloring stopped, from up close it wasn't as obvious. We bought it up with our SS at the time and he tried every explanation in the book to say it was fine, it's just wet, there's differences we have to live with (my blood pressure if going up just remembers his stupid explanations). They said that they'd refund half of what we paid extra, after all it was half bricked using the right color *idiots*. Cool heads prevailed and we got the full amount back. Re: Issues with the Mortar color for our new home 5Apr 29, 2010 12:24 pm Removing anything with any information about our build. If I was to win Lotto, I would build with a different builder, now to win lotto Re: Issues with the Mortar color for our new home 6Apr 29, 2010 12:34 pm @RoadkillNZ, We had a walkthru with our SS and it took us over an hour to convince him that there is an issue not only with the mortatr color but the gaps between the bricks were not within tolerance. They said they would try and fix all the issues before handover. The same day they brought down part of the wall and constrcuted thrice till now. It looks alright now but it looks different from the other walla around it The SS said he would call professional brick and mortar matching company to fix the difference in color and the shadowing etc. We are still waiting for that to happen. However, we plan to get an independent inspection done before moving in so if there are still issues with the mortar and bricks the builder will have to fix it.
