We have a black lab x dalmation and she was sooo destructive. The key is make sure they have lots of walks and lots of toys to play with when your at work. We bought a kong from the pet shop. Put some peanut butter and treats in the centre and throw it outside. It kept her amused for hours. Once she was a bit older she was left at home during the day on her own. She would whinge for about 10 mins and then she was fine. We just made sure she had lots of toys for her. Otherwise she used to be very naughty. ie she chewed the chairs on our outdoor setting, Dug up the brickpaving, ripped up all the plants we put in the garden (I mean every single one), dug numerous mines in our backyard, ate retic, chewed power cords, ate cushions, ate all our shoes, chewed all of our clothes on the line. This went on for over a year. She does not do this stuff now. Its like she is a different dog now. Thank goodness!! So it looks like we finally have some movement on site!
